Deleted Thread deleted? May 7, 2011 9:17 PM   Subscribe

What's happened to the Deleted Thread blog?

It hasn't been updated in over a month. I know it's not an 'official' Mefi site, but has puke & cry/bob sarabia/dead cousin ted finally just thrown in the towel, or is it something more sinister?

This post was deleted for the following reason: Poster's Request -- frimble

I'll just close this up, then.

He's been busy but I think he'll get back to it. Nothing sinister.

I'll just open this back up then.

The deleted posts extension works great. I never would have checked it out had the blog not stopped updated, but it's actually better.

Well, there is one way to check how fast the deleted thread blog gets updated…
posted by yaymukund at 9:53 PM on May 7, 2011

This could be easily automated. Blogspot has an API too.

Well I hope none of those were sockpuppets for anonymous-type questions, since now everyone knows all his usernames.

Ok, he links them in his profile. It's all good. Never mind.

I can't believe it's updated manually. Isn't that sort of thing what computers are for?

The guy running the blog ate pop rocks with soda and DIED.

In a parallel universe somewhere, my evil self would be opening a Metafilter clone called www.metafiltrand.com that uses a distinctive red color scheme. It takes the deleted Metafilter threads, opens them for comment, and grows its own community. Mathowie would be pissed, but after typing the cease & desist then he realizes it's all ok because I'm skimming off his fighty, problematic users. Soon we've got this system in place where when cortex and jessamyn have had enough of someone's whining, they close up the account and deliver it to my fighty site, where I take the new user on board. It's the "Take it to the red" program. My team of 20 moderators and those who voluntarily registered at my site school the washback users in how to interact with others and participate productively in threads.

Confining the troublesome users to one site would just allow them to breed and specialize.

I'm breeding right now.

Hmm, and then once fighty users have been rehabilitated enough, they could graduate to a halfway-house site with only 10 moderators. Called "ascending to the purple".

Purple ...like a bruise.

It's time to let the healing begun.

"What you are about to watch is a mysterious video. It's origin is attributed variously, and almost certainly spuriously, to various abstract artists or surrealists."

Watson did it.

I made an automated version here using the google data API; it checks every 15 minutes. I also sent a memail to p&c about pointing it at his blog instead.

I'll leave it running for now if people want to subscribe to it, but consider it temporary/proof of concept.
