saveyoursanity came into #bunnies yesterday with some terrible news. She had been contacted on Facebook by one of Bob Sarabia's sisters, telling her that bob sarabia, aka puke & cry, aka dead cousin ted has passed away. Dinosaur Jr - Puke & Cry

Bob passed away on 12th September, 2011, aged 28. His obit is here.

Bob will be greatly missed. He was one time curator of the MetaFilter deleted posts blog. For many years he was a regular on #bunnies, where people are welcome to drop by and share some memories and/or hugs.

Some people have had problems with the obit link. If you go to the main page, click on obituaries on the side then look for Robert Aaron Sarabia. No cause of death is specified.

If any of Bob Sarabia's family should happen upon this thread, please know that the single period indicates a moment of silence. I am so sorry for your loss.

Obit link didn't work for me either, but if you search on his last name you can fine it. Weirdly you get the same URL, so no idea why it doesn't load the first time. Maybe try a refresh?

I liked this member. He answered a lot of my questions over the years.

He was also funny.

The obit does not list cause of death.

Oh, wow, no. This is terrible. He was just a kid to me; I always felt sort of maternal about him. He was an animal lover and a night owl... I used to talk to him sometimes on #bunnies when it was morning for me, and he was up way too late. He was also "Court Siem" on Metachat (the boy loved his sock puppets), and I never got the chance to ask him if it was an anagram for "Tom Cruise." Why Bob would have an anagram of Tom Cruise for one of his handles, I can't imagine; he had a quirky sense of humor.

I'm so sad. Rest in peace, pukey. You'll be missed.

I never got the chance to meet him in person, but he was a good guy from what I knew of him from the site. Aside from the deleted threads blog, he was one of those folks on the site who was enthusiastic about data crunching stuff; I remember running a custom dump of site activity for him years ago before the Infodump existed, as a one off so he could play with the data. Was shocked to hear he'd died via the folks in #bunnies; he'll be missed.

In 2004 Bob put a link to a mixtape on MetaTalk that was there for only a few minutes. I listened to it over and over. I sought CDs and went to concerts because of his mix. A lot of his top listened-to artists on last.fm were on it (Kings of Convenience, The Sea and Cake, Cut Copy, The Wrens, etc). Years have passed and I still occasionally think to contact vomit sobber and thank him for it but I never gave myself the chance.

Thanks, Bob. I'll never forget you.

He was less than half my age, and that really sucks. I can't stay over there right now, it hurts a little too much, and I can't see through the tears anyway.

Bob was one of the string of longtime users here that taught me patience and how we should always give people second chances. My earliest memories of him were from some fairly argumentative emails calling me all sorts of nasty names that he sent, and I had to look them up again today to make sure because in the past few years my opinion of him was of him being a good longtime member of the site. I'm bummed to hear he died so young but knowing that helps solve a bit of mystery since he was angry with me in his very early 20s and I too remember being a pretty angry guy until my mid-20s so he gets a pass from me on early behavior.

We let him come and go and use a few different accounts (never at the same time or for nefarious purposes) and he came around and became an active and good contributor here. I loved the dedication he put into the deleted thread blog, it's such an insane amount of work doled out over the years that I was impressed he kept it going for so long and wondered if anything was up when it suddenly went silent a few months ago. I regret not emailing him to ask why.

Rest in peace Bob, sorry you had to leave us so young.

Pukey was my friend too. He was such a terrific guy. We ALMOST met up once, but dammit, no.

My heart is stopped and stony and full of wasted space like a piece of pumice. I feel funny about losing a friend I never met, but I'm sure about a few things: Pukey was a smart, funny, good humored person. Also he was my boyfriend understudy because in one picture they look identical and he didn't even think I was that weird for going on and on about it.

You were always on my mind, Pukeypie.

I remember first asking him

"pukey what's your real name"

and he was like "well I'll tell ya AV it's Bob"

and I was like "bullshit people aren't named Bob in this day and age you fibbertyfibber. What do you have like a very big boy or something?"

People who can take my teasing... I thought they were immortal.

For the people who flagged it I'm sorry it came across the wrong way.

What is great is people's response here. It is wonderful to see such an outpouring and concern. We all have those moments where we wonder if we pass on, if anybody will care or remember us. It would surely have pleased him to know so many care. Group hug metafilter heartwarming to witness, and hopefully makes more appearances without tragic news like this.
