Opera javascript bug November 9, 2011 9:09 AM   Subscribe

Clicking "Favorite" brings up a javascript error message in Opera. Is this a known bug with a known fix?

This happens on FPPs, in the comment threads, and elsewhere, both with Opera 11.52 and the Opera Next 12 Alpha. The popup says:
Javascript

www.metafilter.com

The page is still loading, please wait to add favorites.
The page is fully loaded, and waiting for several minutes makes no difference.

Sounds like you're having trouble loading a background piece of the page. Try visiting this link. It's a JavaScript library required for adding favorites. You should see a bunch of JavaScript on the page.

If you can't reach that page, that's the culprit. Your computer/network might be blocking it for some reason. Or a network problem could be blocking it.

Once you can load that, try a hard refresh of the page. That will ask your browser to refetch all pieces of the page.

The JavaScript library loaded without any problems, and I did the hard refresh. The problem remains. Looks like I might be switching back to Firefox soon. Bummer!

Try this one too. Maybe you're having trouble reaching the mefi.us domain.

No problems loading http://cdn.mefi.us/scripts/mefi/members110411-min.js either.

Sorry about this, I'm running out of ideas. Just running through the tips here, you might try completely clearing your cache instead of a hard refresh. You could also try disabling any browser extensions you have installed to see if something there is interfering.

No problem. Clearly I'm the only one having the problem.

I hear ya hal_c_on, but it's tough to tell when something is happening for everyone or just you. The contact form works well for this stuff but it isn't as visible so people don't always realize it's an option.

Pretty sure burnt toast is happening for everyone, fwiw.

Yeah I'm seeing that too. You can go to Unblock... and selectively unblock those scripts or click "Disable CSS and JS blocking for site".

FWIWI.....I have a pretty bare bones Opera install....I may be an update behind, but not by much.

No problems across the site. I only keep Opera around for certain purposes, so I haven't done a complete run of all the pages. But what is noted above seems to work fine.

Version 11.51
Build 1087
Platform Win32
System Windows XP
XHTML+Voice Plug-in not loaded

on firefox with noscript running you need to allow googleapis.com for favorites to work

hal_c_on: "What about my toast, pb?"

Carbon absorbs toxins. Eat it and be glad.
