A Plate of Venns May 7, 2012 3:59 PM   Subscribe

This hand-drawn Venn diagram that recently became semi-viral (via the usual chart-themed blogs) seemed MetaFilter-Related to me because it actually looks like a plate of beans, and note the legend for the outermost circle.

That's nice.

Speaking of overthinking, I'm still wondering what's in the overlap between the "All the things I actually did" and "All the things I avoided doing" sets.

I'd also like to see a diagram for "things I don't want to do" and "things I actually did".

It's "All the things I actually do" and "All the things I avoid doing". Critical distinction.

I'm not sure they're beans. They look like some other type of legume.

Scientist: "I'd also like to see a diagram for "things I don't want to do" and "things I actually did"."

I think, for many of us, these two are almost 100% the same.

I've been waiting for someone to suggest that the Mad Men plot, in which SCDP can't close the deal on Heinz baked beans because the client has some mysterious criteria in his head about what the ad should be about but is unable to either articulate it or recognize it when he sees it, was Metafilter-inspired.

This is what you get when you practice structured procrastination.

"DID I TELL YOU ABOUT THE TIME WHEN I... mumblemumblemumble. ZZZZ..."

This is what happens after you realize that you have spent years procrastinating on things, have not done enough great things, have not planned to do certain things, and always talk about doing things but fail to take any action to do these things.

Why is there no overlap between "Things I Plan to Do" and "Things I Procrastinate on Doing"? I require analytic rigor in my jokey Venn diagrams.

Wait, if the thing I plan to do is 'procrastinate' and I do it, will the universe survive?

That diagram is not well thought-out. Some of the circles clearly should be overlapping and are not.
posted by Decani at 2:35 AM on May 8, 2012

Yeah, there are all kinds of legitimate intersections that this diagram ignores. For instance, things I plan to do and procrastinate doing -- like laundry, or the dishes.
