Metafilter Fantasy EURO 2012 league June 7, 2012 7:36 AM   Subscribe

EURO 2012 starts tomorrow, as does of course its fantasy football game! Join the MetaFilter league!

I was surprised to not see any posts about this; hopefully I haven't missed anything. Anyway, the league code is 138959-82412, if you want to join.

I am itching to avenge my Fantasy EPL 4th place, so I hope this isn't too short notice.

Also, be aware that the rules are somewhat different between this game and the EPL fantasy game -- maybe most notable is the way you can do "manager substitutions," replacing players who have yet to play with ones who play later in the Matchday.

Totally getting Messi.

I'm in, but mainly so I can crow about my #2 finish in the EPL game here. I doubt I will do as well in the sprint-like format that is fantasy Euros.

The subs rules are certainly interesting - there'll be some frantic phone internet activity in the pub between games I suspect (I'm in).

Totally getting Messi.

I didn't know Alexi Lalas had a MeFi Account!

There is also a Sportsfilter group, if anyone is interested

One place behind my mighty champions Hogtown Hotspur! I'll play too, though I'll be less active than the premiership game, I prefer to chill out and watch the Euros. Come on Oirland!

Dammit, I was hoping Hogtown had ascended into Heaven or something, thus leaving space for us mere mortals to achieve.

A bit last minute, don't properly understand the rules around substitutions but I'm in!

My fantasy is England might play at least some football before coming home, but I always was a dreamer.

My fantasy is England might play some beautiful football before coming home after the group stage, but with Roy Hodgeson in charge, I must be dreaming.

C'mon Liverpool Season 2012.5!

C'mon Liverpool Season 2012.5!

Liverpudlian Season.

You'll never walk alone, he's got a pineapple on his head, and the RAF from Britain shot one down.

The only reason the US needs to win it all is so three countries can sing "Two world wars and one world cup...."

I'm having a difficult time deciding between Papadopoulos or Papadopoulos, so I'll probably just go with Papastathopoulos.

I hate picking these teams because I suffer from a combination of over thinking each selection and personal biases. "Torres? He's sort of in form, but it was a pretty weak selection, and he was a kopite, but he needs redemption... What's Zlatan do besides hold Sweden back and have nice hair? Can John Terry just disappear?" I'm in anyhow.

I'm In !
I picked mostly at random though - let's see if you can beat that :)

I just picked Portugal in the office sweep. They struggled to hold Macedonia to a draw, got thrashed by Turkey, and now they're in the Group of Death.

Sorry, back to the fantasy.

Im in, although the service is freezing up all the time and it won't let me change my profile information at the moment. Team Two Left Feet!

Why did I pick Szczesny as my keeper? WHY!

You can sub him out retroactively and go with your #2. (I think)

Wow, quite a corker! Was happy with the Lewandowski goal, but annoyed by the loss of a Polish clean sheet. It certainly wasn't lacking for drama, though.

No, if a player is sent off, you're unable to sub them out (or change the captaincy from them if it's your captain).

My consolation is that I also have Lewandowski on my squad.

Because we enjoy negative numbers? I almost made him my captain!

Tragic the Czechs got in ahead of Scotland - we could have had the honour of being humped by Russia. There's John Terrys heroic and dignified leadership of the England team to look forward to of course.

And so we move on to Zlatan, the last of my Captaincy hopes for this gameweek...
posted by garius at 3:30 AM on June 11, 2012

Well hopefully Zlatan sorted things out a bit for you yesterday. Shevchenko may have got 2, but how often can he play like that?
posted by marienbad at 10:01 AM on June 12, 2012

Yeah, second week has gone a bit brighter.

Very strange tournament so far. Certainly making the FF interesting though.

A tip of the beret to France for conceding so totally to a team who was on their way out anyways.

Congrats to dmit who had a splendid finals to claim victory. I was terrible, but I'm going to claim not so bad for a Yank. Diminished expectations and all that. I made a foolish decision to overvalue the craptastic German defense which had the results it deserved.
