I think it would be great to have a daily digest mail, with links to MeFi posts

now that MeFi is starting to move very fast, with posts moving down the page by afternoon i think it would be great to have a daily digest mail, with links to MeFi posts. i also agree with the idea below about email alerts when a posting you've responded to is further commented.

I agree that old threads are a bit hard to manage.

Email alerts might not be the best solution, all those emails flying about. It would not scale very well as the number of users imcreases.

Nevertheless, threads tend to die off as they move down the page. While sometimes this is a good thing, it also means that threads on less common subjects die early. Common subjects get more airplay because several people post related threads (can you say the word "Nader"?)

As a feature, I would like to see a list of which threads have comments posted to them. Optionally, this might also show links to those posts and who they are by. This could be dsiplayed in a similar way to the existing "list comments based on user name" feature.

I could imagine using this page even more often than the front page because it removes dead threads and only displays active ones.

Tonight I'll start sending a nightly "Best Of" email. I'll choose the 4 or 5 topics with compelling links or comments, sent as a list of URLs and short summary. It'll go out daily around 10:00PM PST. Sign up by simply checking the box your preferences page.
