Strange, I read the post about evolt.org first, and it got juxtaposed againts mathowie's comments next, and I am reminded how much I have enjoyed MF over the year I've known it, and still incredulous that Mr. Haughey would be willing to offer so much for so little for so long. So what does one do when a silly little site no one cares about becomes something everybody loves but you (when you are the one that lives with it)?

I am not pretending to know Matt's mind. I just thought it curious those two threads got stitched together in my browsing. I figure most bloggers always secretly want a wide audience, but what to do when it happens?

Apply for sainthood, of course.

Ha! that rocks evanizer.

I dunno pisky, I guess it's a double edged sword. If the site was no fun for me at all, I would take it down and weather the storm of complaints. The times the site has been down for long periods, I've missed it, so it won't be going away soon.

I was probably being a tad melodramatic, to make it clear that even after three years of hard work, I don't get much monetary compensation, but that's not why I started it or what I wanted to get out of it.

Don't worry, it's still fun and also a pain sometimes, but it'll stick around.

We're not going to canonize you just yet, Matt. You have to be dead five years first. But as far as the heroic virtues and the miracles go, you're definitely worthy in my book! Thanks for making the online world a #006699-er place!

And there was much rejoicing.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say either evolt or mefi are sites no one cares about.. ;)
It's an interesting parrallel regardless. I met Matt a number of years ago, when he was starting mefi, and we both collaborated on a 'domain-issues' project for a while, with no result - the whole time fostering our respective communities.

There is only a finite amount of time one can spend on *anything* they choose to do with their life before its time to move on to the next challange and use past experiences as a foundation for future endeavors.

It's for the chicks, right? Chicks dig coldfusion wonks.

So why does Sinner want to kill Matt Haughey?
Are we right to be scared? And who'll babysit Metafilter when he's gone?
