1st Jan almost over here. Watching Pretty in Pink on TV. Is that rocking enough? I think I just saw a Siouxsie & the Banshees record in the store Molly Ringwald works in. Also, they have record stores, full of retro vinyl. And auto-reverse cassette decks in their cars. Not sure why Molly Ringwald drives a beaten up VW Karmann Ghia, though. Even in that state, the car would be worth upwards of $10-15K in today's dollars; hardly a "quirky" car for a girl from the wrong side of the tracks.

Everyone fell asleep except for my ten year old son and I. We sat outside, counted down the seconds and then he banged two pans together yelling "Happy New Year!" while hundreds of fireworks went off all around us. I've never seen anyone so happy to start a new year.

Let us resolve to pet something: I went by the office this afternoon to make sure the feral cats had food and clean water for the day. One we've adopted and she hangs out inside all day. One has become tame with me and lets me give her pets -- she'll be adoptable soon. The rest are too skittish as yet.

Next up: Figure out how to deal with the feral-cat monster we've created at my office.

Re resolutions involving petting things:

This past spring-summer-fall I worked as a gardener in a park and I decided in my first week of work there that my goal was to pet all the dogs.

It was awesome. I met lots of dogs and lots of people.

I got married in the summer and some of those dogs got me a wedding present. On my last day another one gave me a going away card. Some of these dogs would refuse to leave the park if they could see me. I had to hide occasionally just so their owners could get back to work. So yeah, you could occasionally see me hiding behind a tree so a dog would think I had left.
