I was pretty surprised to see Jessamyn on Venture Beat this morning. Great picture!

Jessamyn is pretty surprised to see Jessamyn on Venture Beat, to tell you the truth. Especially considering that is also my uncredited photo.

I'm a little more impressed that jessamyn knows Robert Johnson.

I think they just edited the post to add the "photo credit: jessamyn via photopin cc" credit line. Unless I typoed, I did a search on an earlier load of the page, and didn't find a reference to Jessamyn.

Although, I note that Jessamyn is using the Creative Commons Noncommercial use only license. I am pretty sure Venture Beat doesn't qualify as a legitimate noncommercial use.

2bucksplus: That's the unreleased iPhone Mini.

Heh. I don't usually watch Jimmy Kimmel, but the other night he was going on about the NEW iPad with TWICE the memory and Apple's marketing strategy.

He joked that Apple should just have a subscription service where we automatically give them our money and every six months they just send us the newest version of their product.

How sad is it that my first thought was, "That would be pretty awesome, actually?"

Not that I own every Apple product, because of course I don't! I just wish Apple offered a (cheaper) way for fangirls/bois like me to upgrade our existing stuff when the new, improved version comes out.

Yes, Mistress*, but Grindr is also in the App Store (not sure how they got around the "no adult apps" policy).

And it looks like some kinksters are working on a Fetlife iOS version, too.**

*This feels weird to type.

**Please, may I have another? ;)

Oh, excellent misha! I do hope so, as I am a HEAVY FL user, more so than Facebook, and I would love to have an iPhone again :)

I was surprised when I saw this screen name available and it is very fun to have mefi go 'welcome back mistress', etc. I've got it on several other sites as well, which is kind of cool.

Actually:
An erg is the unit of energy and mechanical work in the centimetre-gram-second (CGS) system of units, symbol "erg". Its name is derived from the Greek ergon, meaning "work"

I've always had a thing for ergs. They're a nice comfy unit, you know?

Sure, there's the officious joule, that's all sleek and international and SI, and its awkward American cousin the kWhour. I've met the eV and played with wacky wavenumbers. I even flirted with natural units in university, but that relationship seemed too undefined.

I've seen 'em all, but after all, CGS is such a comfortable dimensioning, like a dime or a feather or a snap of the fingers. It's ergs for me, all the way.

That's the plan I'm on with my phone company. I pay them monthly and every year or two I get a new handset. Since the iPhone came out I use it to upgrade my iPhone.

posted by drlith at 3:24 AM on February 1, 2013

I would hope that anyone who has 44 years worth of photos on the internet would have a lot of hairstyles. More to the point, I grew it out and cut it off probably twice in the ten years of heavy internet documentation, so I'd argue there are three haristyles: long, short, dreadlocks, and then everything else is an in-betweener phase of some sort. I've literally never found a haircut that I've just latched on to and thought "That's the one!" I sometimes envy the people who can do that.

OK. So soon after I graduated college I was hanging out with some college friends somewhere for some reason. And we were talking about t-shirts we should make. Because that's a thing we did. And we decided, for some reason, that we should make whole series of shirts on the theme: www.something.computer. I don't know how the idea arose, but maybe we were talking about starting a t-shirt business or something? Anyway, it was hilarious at the time. For that magical 2 hour period, there was nothing funnier than the phrase elephant.computer.internet.

In retrospect, I think it may have been quite weird.
