Chrome for iPad not obeying title size set to 0 February 15, 2013 11:56 AM   Subscribe

I'm logged in and using Chrome on an iPad 3. I have title size set to zero in my preferences. That works on my laptop and elsewhere, but not on my iPad; I see the titles exactly as a non-logged in user would do.

which, I'm unable to resist saying, means can't use the site on my iPad, as I hate the titles, they've changed metafilter and not for the better...

Try saving your preferences on your iPad. The display preferences are cookie-based, so if you change those preferences in one browser, you'll need to re-save them in any other browsers you use. Here's more info.

In fact, make them really big and give yourself a willpower workout, ya pansy.

PB, that fixed it right up, thanks for the swift and efficacious response.

Shakespherian, funny, I never thought I'd be one of those oooooooogh, change is BAD people. In fact I laughed at them and pointed. But the formula for the blue was always pretty simple anyway: often brilliant, clever or playful writing in well crafted narrative posts before and after the jump. Titles bring an initial framing that simply spoils my enjoyment of what follows. It so wasn't broke before...

I don't really see how a smalltext aside is designed to fix that, though.

You're referring to the one I made above? It's not intended to fix it. It's just y'know, like a nasty burp or something: better out than in. I really love MF (even though not a terribly involved user) and think the mods do a bang up job. But there's not much point in me complaining more formally, as i) I'm a tiny voice in a hugely vocal (and somewhat cliquey?) commenting group, and ii) to be fair to the MF team I'm well aware the discussion has already been rather comprehensively had.

Still gives me stinky burps though. Can't help that

Can I comment about the titles just to get my dead relatives taxidermied?

HOLD ON HOLD ON. I've been down this road before.

Can you promise there *will* be some pet parts tacked on?

You always need to ask.

I'd like some whiskers added to old Uncle Grandma, but can you set the size to 0 for me? TIA.

2nding request for title size to be zero for my dead. Otherwise I'm going to skim right past Great-Uncle Phillip + Prehensile Tail.

Uncle Grandma? What part of the USA are you from?

So, titles have been around for a while now and I'm still killing them whenever I can be bothered. Which, as it turns out, is less and less often. So I get to use MeFi both with and without titles on a regular basis.

I'm having much the same reaction to MeFi's front page titles as I've had to Gmail's horrid new look: a mixture of irritation and resignation. Basically I can just feel myself getting worn down, because changing the fucking setting on every. single. device! is just a fucking nuisance. As a result, my overall enjoyment of the experience of using both services is noticeably less than before their redesigns.

Some change is good. Some change makes things better. Some change that makes things better is initially annoying purely because it is change, after which the annoyance goes away as the improvements become obvious. From where I sit, neither the Gmail makeover nor the MeFi title redesign falls into this category; both of them seem to me to be clear examples of useless change for change's sake, and I would be happier to see both of them reverted.

There was a period of time when my go-to beer at this one Irish pub was Bass Ale. Drank it happily until one day my friend says, "I don't know how you drink that. It too sweet for me." The next sip I took from the same glass I'd been drinking was so sweet I couldn't stand it, and haven't been able to drink it since.

I had not noticed the title change until I was halfway through this thread. Now I see what y'all are talking about, and I hate it.
