Maybe I missed something, and if I did, I am sorry, but...

It appears to me that the last time somebody posted FFF (no, not the user, and not to be confused with Fan Fiction Friday), Flash Friday Fun on the front page of the blue was 4/20/12, prior to that was 2/4/11, etc etc.

(FFF Tag pulls up 14, FlashFridayFun pulls 7, and plain old Flash Friday pulls 27, mostly Friday. Duh. I am sure lots of old FFF post never got correctly labeled as such)

1) I most defiantly remember them more frequently.
2)I sorta thought they were a established "thing" on the blue.

My meta question is: Is it acceptable to post FFF on the blue? And if not, why? Or is it a case of Flash, the software, being outdated, unused, etc etc that has caused a FlashFridayFun drought? Discuss.

I feel like they get posted fairly regularly (and it's totally fine in theory.) I suspect inconsistency of tagging is the problem.

friday+fun pulls up 25 posts.

When I wrote out the question, I meant to include the possibility that the whole just of it was a group of members who regularly posted FFF, and then the possibility that now they are all dead.

Silly Queer!

It was just barely ever a Thing, I think.

If you find something great that happens to be made in using Flash, it makes little to no sense to wait until it's Friday somewhere in the world to post it. And looking at it from the opposite direction, if you are going out looking for things made in Flash to post to Metafilter just because it's Friday, then you are Doing It Wrong, I reckon.

If you find something cool on the web and want to share it, just do. It shouldn't matter what day of the week it is.

87.32% of the userbase now reads Metafilter on iPads and thus can't use flash.

You misspelled "flash" as "flast" in one of your searches. If you correct that you'll find two Flash Friday posts from just last month.

That's what I wanted to hear. Thank you.

Also Rhomboid, thank you. It was all marked squiggly red, and after ten hours staring at a screen, I just didn't notice it.

I wouldn't take umbrage if you posted one. Of course, I've been in and out of sensory deprivation for about a year now (which is my fault), and Flash is blocked at my workplace (which is not my fault), and WHAT IS THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN, DO IT.

(I'm sorry, but I have to help run Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day tomorrow, and I'm a little on edge.)

On preview, re: Tell Me No Lies -- I too use an iPad at home. So... No Flash at work or at home for me. I skip FFF posts for those reasons.

Flash games account for a fair proportion of my posts, but I don't think I've ever saved them for a Friday (nor used some sort of FF tagging).

Elephant Day (October 8, 2006) was an early stand-alone complex. It began here.

I thought you could link to a specific day on the blue but I can't figure it out now...

Tell Me No Lies: “87.32% of the userbase now reads Metafilter on iPads and thus can't use flash.”

QueerAngel28: “That's what I wanted to hear. Thank you.”

It may seem ironic, but I do believe Tell Me No Lies is pulling your leg here. The last time we talked about browser stats for Metafilter was two years ago, but back then users who were dialing in from Safari for iPhone / iPad were hovering at around 9%; and while that was pretty high compared to the rest of the internet, it still wasn't even 10%. Maybe it's possible that, in the past two years, everybody on Metafilter ran out and got iPads – heaven knows they have gotten very popular, and I like mine – but still, 87.32% sounds like a (ahem) made-up number.

Apologies if I'm explaining a joke that everybody else already got. Personally, I think Rhomboid has it – it was just a misspelling. Like you, I can totally remember us having these recently.

And cripes, even if 90% of the user base is using a substandard general computing device sharing the love with those of use who aren't is still encouraged.

I have used: Friday Flash Fun, Fun Flash Friday, Friday Flash Fantasticnes, and Flash Fun Friuesday (because it was a Tuesday). Last one was April 6, 2012, but I've also only made one post since then so there's that.

Now I almost never play games on anything other than an iP*d, so all of Friday's flash fun has to be had by others.

I recall it was a lot more common a few years back. I don't think it's a faulty memory, I think it's idiosyncratic titling/tagging.

Okay, it's possible I might have exaggerated the percentages a little.

As my penance I present you with some real data:

The number of posts containing the word "flash" per month, January 2006 through March 2013.

Not exactly what you asked for, but indicative nonetheless I think.

From the metafilter n-gram viewer: The relative frequency of posts with "flash fun" in the titles peaked in 2004, then stayed relatively constant from 2005 through 2011, but has basically dropped to zero the past couple years: http://mefingram.appspot.com/?content=flash+fun&corpus=mefi

For reference, there were 7 posts in 2011 with titles containing "friday flash fun", and 0 in 2012.
