After 2 years of being here, I want to say thank you. You have given me so much.
Today is my two year anniversary of being part of MeFi with this particular account (I actually joined in early 2010 but someone found my old account and made me seek the anonymity of a new one). I wanted to stop by here and thank everybody for making MeFi such a thoroughly excellent place to hang out and rely on, because I really do find now that I depend on this community for so much.
When I joined I was starting to lose myself to an eating disorder and depression and just a general sense of despondency about being lonely after some big life changes, and I don't think that as a young 20-something I realized what I stumbled on to when I made my first account. Now that I'm here, though, I can't stay away. This place is, for lack of a better word, a kind of sanctuary for me, because I feel like here is where I started to really let myself be authentic about my thoughts and concerns, and for that I am grateful, because the thing I have always struggled with in life is being my true self. There is nothing more wonderful than watching this community reach out to those in need, and I personally apply so much of the wisdom dispensed here to my daily life and my world is better for it.
Thanks, truly, from the bottom of my heart, for giving me a space in which to be myself so that I could start to practice that state of being and translate it to the real world. Y'all are peaches, and when I am a bit braver, I will be so excited to meet you at an IRL meetup someday.

Heh, my 2-year anniversary of my 2nd username is coming up soon, too. Fun! Congrats on sticking around. Of course I have no idea where you live but if you ever happen to be in SLC, Utah for any reason and want to do the Most Non-threatening Meetup Ever I would be glad to host it. Even from an established safe-distance of 100 paces or whatever makes you comfy.

Glad this place is a sanctuary for you. It took me ages to get up the nerve to go to a meet up because you are all so clever and I was intimidated, but they're fun and no-one has yet turned out to be a dog with no pants on.

Heh. I missed my 6th mefiversary on may 30th. Also my parents just informed me that my wife and I both missed our 11th wedding anniversary on June 1. So, ya.

I lurked for four years before I finally had the confidence to make an account -- I think it was the FPP about Original Law & Order getting canceled? I lost my shit -- and I think everyone alive should know that participating in MetaFilter is WAY more fun than just reading MetaFilter. I come here everyday, it's like brushing my teeth or something - so integral that I feel "off" if I don't do it. I learn a LOT, and it's soooo nice to have MeFi to come back to when I'm surrounded by people that are not very interested in discussing anything beyond their day-to-day lives. And going to my first meetup was a huge deal for me, because reasons - but everyone was lovely.

Oh yay! I lurked on my partners account for years before getting the guts to become active. I've learned more from this site, and this site has felt more like family, than almost any other place I've been.

Even in the relatively caring confines of MeFi I think it's pretty ballsy to admit out loud on the big, dumb internet that you went through a hard time. Well done. I am honestly happy that you are happier, and this is a swell post.

Lovely post. Glad to hear the site has helped, and I feel much the same way. I start to get a nervous tic if I haven't had my MeFi "fix" in 2-3 days. Some really amazing people here.
