This got a chuckle out of me just now...

Not to go into too much detail, but a friend of mine is seriously ill and I have been reading old Ask threads to prepare myself for every eventuality, good or bad. Even though I feel pretty low right now, I laughed when I saw this, so I figured I'd share it.

That's crazy!

Though how come, when searching all posts & comments for tags, under Ask Metafilter it has death (672)? Why the discrepancy in numbers?

Well, this meta is tagged death, so it should be at least be 667 (the neighbor of the beast) by now.

There will be killings to cover this up, mark my words.

Killings, you say? Pshaw. The killings are necessary. Without death, there can be no undeath.

Without death, there can be no undeath.

Is this really true? Couldn't you just sublimate into a horrible semblance of life without actually passing through a "death state?" I admit I have fallen slightly behind in my necrology homework, so the answer may be in an upcoming lesson.

Sadly, working in a cubicle only approximates eldritch horror. Your standard office worker will never attain eldritch power without actual, clinical, death. Soul crushing doesn't count.

It's only available on the Darknet, of course.

668 is the neighbor of the beast.

667 is the guy across the street from the beast, who really wishes the beast would take better care of his lawn, and would a coat of paint hurt anybody, you know, he's the one who has to look at it every day.

The people at 666 Pond Street down the street from us used to have their mailbox painted dark red with "666" hand-painted in black numbers and a stuffed crow perched on top. I'm not sure if they moved or if they got tired of the crow getting stolen, because now it's just a normal mailbox.

I think the Beast lost his lawnmower in that whole uncursing thing.

666 Spadina Avenue has traditionally (and appropriately) been cheap student apartments for most of its existence.

I dunno the 666 is weird and all but good luck and hugs to you and your friend showbiz_liz.

I think the 667 shows that there are posts after death. So at least we'll be entertained in the afterlife.

Hugs to you and your friend showbiz_liz.

It's still 666, actually. At least, through corb's May 6 social security question. This MetaTalk post doesn't make it 667, because the 666 is for AskMe only.

Is it common knowledge that 666 = DCLXVI -- the roman numerals for 500 through 1 in descending order -- and does that imply that "the number of the beast" should be read as "the numerals of the beast" (i.e., Rome's)? The wikipedia page doesn't seem to touch on it, and I can't remember where I'm cribbing this from. False etymology or legitimate insight?

Though how come, when searching all posts & comments for tags, under Ask Metafilter it has death (672)? Why the discrepancy in numbers?

Based on the most recent infodump, the discrepancy seems to be due to the six questions 21510, 54178, 70987, 71684, 74861, 89794, which appear in tagdata_askme (as tagged 'death') but do not appear in postdata_askme.

And that's just the ones tagged 'death', of course. There are a lot more questions in tagdata_askme but not in postdata_askme — for example, there's 91807, ostensibly tagged 'eyes', and indeed, the search for 'eyes' says there are 239 questions thus tagged on AskMe, but the tag page says there's only 238.

The total number of questions that appear in tagdata_askme but not in postdata_askme, whatever the tags, turns out to be... 672.

I looked and a hideous Office Assistant appeared. Its UI's name was Clippy, and Siri came close behind him...
