It's amazing how you can think you read everything but miss so many great posts! Like I'm particularly interested in Hardanger-area folk crafts (I'm not a nerd, you're a nerd!) and I didn't even see the fiddle one. And "medicinal hooch" is what my great grandparents (he was a judge, even) kept in the house for parties. He acquired it by allowing a bootlegger to date his daughter, no curfew, as long as he left some hooch under the porch. It's like all the corruption in one family story! We found some of his medicinal hooch when going through his effects. I was very little, like six or seven, but there was a long debate about whether the adults were morally obligated to toast him with the illicit 60-year-old booze, or whether that might actually hasten them all to joining him in his eternal repose.

Well, gee, thanks!

I guess this proves there's always money in the banana stand.

"I guess this proves there's always money in the banana stand."

That, or a twist on the old adage "No glove, no love."

Congrats!

But I can't believe I hadn't checked out filthy light thief's Norwegian fiddle post. Awesome!

As I wandered through the grocery store yesterday, I came across turnips on sale. I'm pretty sure there were people wondering what this strange man was doing, swinging one underhand as though testing its weight and preparing to bowl it down the aisle, all the while smirking to himself.
