Please add year to date field (redux) July 24, 2002 11:40 AM   Subscribe

How about including the year along with the date info on posts? This post got two new hits today, but we wouldn't know that if Ufez hadn't used the words "three years later".

Well, cult threads wouldn't look as cute, then

Boredom at work can be a bitch. I chose my words carefully on purpose, just b/c I had noticed in the past that there was no year date on things. I just wanted to see if anyone else went back and read those, and if so, how carefully. I still find it cool that after three years the link still works, though. Not the case with many older threads.

soon you won't be able to add new comments to posts more than a month old and this requested feature will be moot.

That makes sense. Sorry if I broke an implicit taboo, matt.

The community will now punish this broken taboo. Tar and feathers? Tied naked on an anthill? Does anyone have the scroll?

Still, I always thought that if it were any year but the present, it should be displayed. Some environments allow you to specify that as part of the date template.

so that implies that follow-ups will be new threads, no?

Ask not for whom the bell tolls, 1142. Thy days be numbered!

And suddenly all the cult threads are clamouring for attention when I'm sorting by "my comments". Look there's little "metafilter parody, no comment from me..." and "Now this is something I just don't get...". Ah, bless their little cotton comments, they're all grows up.

Doh, does this mean that great threads like the famous 1142 will no longer be allowed to be posted in? If so, I might want to get my 2 cents in over there before you shut it down. Also, It may take a while to go through the 1600+ comments on that post before I get to posting.
