Etrigan it gets subsuquentially-stupid. I was wandering around Chinatown with Stynxno and ThePinkSuperhero and Hellbient and Lola-g and a couple others of our obnoxious crew and there was a dunk tank. which contained an extremely racist clown.
the unnamable mefite who was briefly my beloved wife, put a baseball square into that jackasses eye.

It was definitely 2003 per one of the screenshots in the background. And wherever you were, you could still smoke in a bar there.

I met the only woman I will ever love, at a MEFI event where we were all basically stranded in heavy snow in the Lower East Side and I left the safety of the bar to go get vegetarian banh mi for everyone from the place sorta-across-the-street and I was handing around my Polaroid SX70 to mefites to use for fun. that is how we rolled.

yhbc I haven't the foggiest on usernames aside from amberglow and TPS, but maybe I can dredge up a MeTa link from the fallout of that event. I do know this particular one was this strange meta-meta type IRL where I foolishly combined mefites and New Jersey and Guinness with Swiss Bankers From Ireland (nosrsly, that is a 'ting. I used to work for Credit Suisse - yes, I was a Madman before there were Madmen - and a lot of my coworkers were from Ireland out of the UK office for some reason) - so, the ginger dude and the sideways-head-dude are not in fact mefites but Friends Of Mine From Ireland (tm).

amberglow, adampsyche and I didn't spend the night in a cemetery, it was a NJ children's playground. I think we created a story about it being a graveyard just to look cool. Hellbient may have been there too. goddam was definitely there.

Yes, I was definitely at that one, dorian! Looks like that was the October 2004 NJ Meetup, at which I took some photos as well!
While we're visiting Memory Lane, here are three photos I took at the February 2004 Veselka Meetup (my ancient photo gallery software is borked at the moment; sorry to direct-link without captions).
My very first meetup was the January 2003 MeFiNYC Winter. Sadly the photo links I've checked are busted including mine. I've got dozens of photographs from this one, which maybe I should resuscitate, though it'll be a pain in the butt. I'll just leave this one here, though. Gawker had just launched, y'see, and opinions were already running strong.

My fondest meet-ups were back in 2006 when I lived in Portland for a couple years and then the insane 30 days 20+ meetups thing Cortex did in 2009. I participated in like 1/4 of that and it was too much.

vrakatar you should totally instigate one! I generally don't go to MV (mainly 'cos it's right there) but when I do, I ride the carousel and steal brass rings from childrens, and eat ice creams and drink every beer they have.
