Turkey Day 2020 November 25, 2020 7:28 PM   Subscribe

As has been usual for the past several years, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is running an internet-streamed collection of episodes for US Thanksgiving, which they call Turkey Day. It will be showing in many places. And as usual, MST Club (if it turns out we can embed the stream in our video room), will be watching along, and everyone is invited to watch too, in our little chat room environment isolated from the general internet hubbub. Everything starts at 9 AM Eastern time and runs all day long. It might be a nice thing to watch, especially if you are having a light Thanksgiving this year.

Fans voted on episodes for inclusion this year, so four of the episodes we're pretty sure will be included are fan favorites Pod People, I Accuse My Parents, Hobgoblins and Final Justice.

I feel bad about this coming so close on the heels of the election day show, and in a month there'll be the Christmas Marathon (I think 7th annual?). But I never post on Talk about anything else, so, consider that I just saved everything up for the holiday seasoning.

I’m curious what other Thanksgiving pop culture traditions people have.

Coming out of a decade in Whedon fandom, my tradition is Pangsgiving, which for me actually evolved into “Turkeys Away” (WKRP), “Pangs” (Buffy) and “Shibboleth” and “The Indians in the Lobby” (West Wing).

What do other people do?

I am Thanking alone this year so will probably be dropping in.

I have a WKRP 1st Annual Turkey Drop t-shirt somewhere . . . .

We're under way! I'm happy the stream is working in our little chat room (the one from YouTube), otherwise we would have had to have constructed a simulcast out of our own copies of episodes.

They've got these cute bumpers where everyone is on Zoom talking to each other!

The first episode is Teenagers From Outer Space. TORCHAA!

Ah I misidentified, it's "Teenagers From Outer Space." They didn't title it ahead of time so I had to guess from the host segment

Movie #2 is Hobgoblins. I repeat what I said in chat about it: "GAH"

Hobgoblins is serious GAH. Thanks for keeping up this tradition!

WUT? I am so happy this is happening. The election day show was one of the highlights of my year, however briefly I was able to join y'all. Do not feel bad, dear MF friend. This is awesome.

Episode four is the wild card: Carnival Magic! Good luck with THAT one.

I love Carnival Magic thank you very much!

Episode five is Final Justice, with the return of Joe Don Baker.

I don't think I'd ever actually seen Final Justice before, and now I know why. I'm reasonably sure it was filmed on Polaroid.

The six and probably last movie of the sequence is The Day The Earth Froze! If it goes like it has in previous years, they'll repeat it afterwards in case you miss one you wanted to see.

A seventh movie! Night of the Blood Beast!

The last movie is Cry Wilderness, which is certainly a strange one!

Show is over, thanks for making it out everyone! There are Thursday and Sunday shows, but Dec 23-25 will be the Christmas Marathon! Hope to see you there!

I'm sorry that I didn't get join y'all this year. With no events, the family was home and we cooked and such like. I never even got a chance to pop in and say hi. Y'all were on my mind though, and I hope that things were ok for everyone.
