169: Soon May The Podcast Come February 1, 2021 11:47 AM   Subscribe

It's Febuary, Februr, uh, it's Ferbur—it's not January anymore and here's a new podcast episode. We're catching up since episode 168 a couple months ago because last month we did the live-stream gala instead! So jessamyn and I try and sum up a couple months of MetaFilter best we can. Runs about 85 minutes.

This morning's impromptu theme song lyrics, in all their questionable scansion:

There once was a site that we hung out on
And the name of it was Metafilter dot com
We'd post and we'd comment all month long
Oh post me MeFites post

Soon may the podcast come
To bring us link and terrible puns
And when cortex and Jessamyn are done
We'll take our leave and go

Man I forgot the Wellerman lyrics and thought this title was some sort of sixty-nine reference and was a little O_O about that but now I have opened this thread and am delighted.

...soon may the Jessamyn `cast,
and shut down Cortex' puns real fast
by asking 'What?!" all flabber-aghast
`till he takes his leave and goes....

cortex, did you get the wolf and the sheep and the cabbage metaphor from me talking about my kids? I remember I used that metaphor a lot when I had to get two toddlers and groceries all safely in from the car without anyone ending up bleeding or eaten!

They're older and more self-sufficient now so they just go help themselves to my cranberry sauce without even waking me up.

Nah, that one has been in my head since I was a kid and precocious about logic puzzles. The cranberry sauce raid thing continues to delight me though.

EM I think it's now time for you to take one of the Cranberry Sauce labels and put it around a can of... something else. They're sharp in some ways but still just kids in other ways. Your TikTok will be LIT.

I was listening to this while washing dishes when Jessamyn started talking about hearing the sound of dishes and it was DEEPLY UPSETTING

If you like to cook on Saturday mornings, here's our next remote baking club IRL. Hope you consider joining. You don't have to bake, you don't even have to cook, but you do have to be tolerant of cooks, bakers, and their homes.

My podcast app said 3.5 hours and...I was all 'well that's a Saturday listen for sure. Then I come here and it says 85 minutes. So I load the episode and lo, it is 85. Still a Saturday listen.

922.... is your podcast app Castro? Mine has done that with this podcast before.

I have been using Audacity to (somewhat clumsily and minimally) put the podcast together for the last few episodes because of some terrible GarageBand crash issue on my workstation; I wonder if there's some difference in metadata from Audacity's mp3 output vs. GB's that is confusing some things?

I'm using Apple Podcasts and mine said the same thing! I thought I must've just read it wrong.

Also Apple Podcasts, and the last few have been like that.

I never listen because as far as I can tell there's no way to fast-forward or rewind. So I'm not sure what was said about the IRL relay walk* across the Pacific. It is a saga! I hope y'all will join us.

*Any exercise counts. The informal rule is: you show up in thread and say "can I do THIS kind of exercise?" and then I say yes and add it to the really long list of kinds of exercise that count.

fast forwarding or rewinding is 100% a function of whatever tool you're using. The little built in app above doesn't do it (I think) but if you download the file and play it using whatever music player you have, you can definitely scoot around in the timeline. We mostly just mentioned that you were doing it and it was a neat idea, iirc.
