moratorium on all the internal squabbling? September 27, 2002 8:21 AM   Subscribe

Please can we have a moratorium on all the internal squabbling? I thought that was what Metatalk was for. This morning there are two posts (so far) in which the comments have devolved into little more than how bad the original post is. Can't we just let Matt delete the bad threads?

Agreed. And:

Off-topic, but can we have people who link to threads in MeTa use a title tag so that we can know which threads they are referring to without having to click on them? I can tell that I've visted the links, but I really dislike having to go back and forth, especially when there is more than one thread linked.

Seconded, but the squabbling is somewhat understandable: the front page looks like Ananova this morning. I've posted at least one crap link in the past (Britney flipping the bird was me), but today is a little extreme.

I don't agree. What if we had sat back in 1940 and let the almighty deal with it then?

I'd have a monocle and be eating sauersprouts that's what.

Good point, Ufez Jones, I will try to remember that in the future.

The two threads I am referring to are the Britney Spears-has-lost-her-virginity and the girl-dragged-next-to-car-by-foster-parent.

Mmm, sauersprouts. Nothing beats a good pot of sauersprouts and a plate of jagerschnitzel!

The system works: Matt has deleted both threads.

I deleted both threads based on the weak links, and due to a poster's request, NOT based on a bunch of whining in a thread.

whining about whether a thread is good or bad doesn't make for good conversation here.

As one of the whiners in one of the posts, I agree that I added nothing to the comments, or to this site for that matter. I don't know why I feel compelled to make comments about weak posts, it's not like I'm an uberposter myself. For some reason it really grates on me when I perceive that posters are making posts just for the sake of making a post and not really trying to share anything new with the community here. Again, my opinion and my reaction. The same argument could be made that I shouldn't have bothered posting to the thread.

I'm half expecting to get on MeFi someday and see this:

There have been 6 links and 93 comments posted since your last visit.
There have been 3 links and 17 comments deleted since your last visit.

And it would probably be a good thing.

Jonah: I think the point is that you should have been whining on MetaTalk, not MetaFilter.

*best Arnold voice* STOP WHINNING!

I haven't seen the threads but as one who has been unmercifully abused in the past, albeit in the grey, not the blue, I think smart arse savagery for the sake of it is unhelpful. It wouldn't hurt to be nice if you think someone is doing something wrong.
As in life I suppose some mefi posters are quite simply arseholes. As in life they probably know who they are and couldn't care less.

Smart-arse savagery? Or smart arse-savagery?

To be honest, one seems considerably less "helpful" than the other.

If there must be whine, where's the cheese?

(Somebody had to say it.)

Danelope, only one could be construed as a good night out, as it were.
