if you're using mozilla. you can just clik on the link in the header of this thread then type:

/join #mefi

To connect to IRC, you will need a chat client such as mIRC, Trillian, Chatzilla which comes with Netscape 7/Mozilla, or any client which connects to an IRC network. Install the program if needed, fire it up and try this link irc.metafilter.com:6667/mefi.

If the link above doesn't work, type /server irc.metafilter.com

once connected type /join #mefi to participate in the craziness.

Yeah, mozilla with chatzilla attached is the best cross platform way to roll nowdays.

Very cool. First of all I've never used Mozilla. Now I wonder why I haven't before. Secondly I've always resisted 'chat', but this is really cool. Thanks Matt!
