Is there a lofi for MeTa and what is lofi for anyway? December 13, 2002 10:48 PM   Subscribe

Is there a lofi for MeTa? If not, what happens to posts that get deleted (like the one that was just here, for example?) Is there any archive, anywhere? For that matter, what exactly is the point of Lofi? Sorry if this has all been explained before - I did search, but couldn't find anything.

I believe MeTa posts die forever. Matt explained lofi recently here.

That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange eons even death may die.

So, do we even need a lofi?

I've had quite a few MeTa threads deleted, the most recent being the mac post. It was probably too tech support, too mailing-list and not truly MeFi-specific, as the information could be gathered elsewhere.

I apologize for my enthusiastic selfishness and thank those who helped me. I hope I'm not going to become one of those tedious Switch fanatics.

Anyway, my point is that posts here really have to suck to be deleted. And none of them (not even one's own) are missed. In fact, with hindsight, it's a mercy.

The mac one was too tech support-y. The others I have deleted lately were deleted because of all the inane chatter made them completely pointless.

While I'm on the topic of my own ignorance on some of the site's features, is there anywhere where you can find a running list of:

a) people with the most FPPs or comments to either MeFi or MeTa
b) User IDs in order (as opposed to just putting random numbers in the URL and seeing who comes up).

Again, apologies if this has been discussed.

I rather liked my non-so-inane addition at the very end of the MeTa thread from last night, and was sorry to see it go. I'm trying to keep from adding to the inanity lately.

jonson, most of what you ask for (but not a complete user list) can be found at jaden's infamous MetaFilter Contribution Index page, which first pointed out the excessive verbosity of me and several others. There are some interesting stats there, though.

speaking of which, sort of, how come when I set my style preferences to "text only" it works for MeFi [very well, thank you] but not for MeTa...?

Does anybody know how to disable the right mouse button? I want to make sure no one steals my 1337 js.
