Site's cookies not working with Mozilla March 23, 2003 3:40 AM   Subscribe

I didn't see a link/email for technical issues, so please hate me if I missed it, but cookies/recent versions of Mozilla and metafilter do not seem to be playing together nicely. I get "authorization" from metafilter less than 10% of the time with mozilla 1.3. Anyone else having problems? It's possible I've made things bad for myself, but I have no problems elsewhere (nor have I changed anything since mozilla 1.2...)

Yeah, I've been using mozilla for the past 9 months or so and noticed a marked rise in the number of dropped cookies. I find it happens everywhere though, with IE I logged into the New York Times once, two years ago, while on Mozilla I need to log into the NYT about 3x a week to tell them who I am. Same with amazon.

This is the closest bug I could find in Mozilla's bug tracking system. I know I set a lot of cookies, but I doubt it's more than 20, so I bet it's got something to do with the 300 cookie value limit.

I've never had a problem with Moz dropping cookies here. I do have it prompt me before allowing a cookie to be set, so the problem may stem from the overall number of cookies in the browser rather than the number for a given URL.

I have 13 cookies from Metafilter. 4 from Metatalk. Why so many? (mozilla 1.3)

The cookies are mainly style preferences. If you go to Manage My Cookies in Moz you can take a look at each of them. If you have that kind of time (which I apparently do, mainly because I'm procrastinating).

Check to see if you have limited the lifetime of your cookies.
