Opera and Titles April 23, 2003 11:34 PM   Subscribe

Wierd problem involving Opera 7.1 and the Title tag. The thing don't seem to be showing up, regardless of whether the dhtml toggle is on or off.

More specifically, the title tag will display normally as the page is loading, but once it reaches 100%, it will switch to just an address. I'm guessing this has to do with some script activation?

(side question, should I just give up on this browser snobbery now?)

Have you seen in it Lynx?

My god....

You'renot still using Lynx are you? Geez, get with the times.

I am disturbed at the continued lack of decent dhtml/javascript support in Opera though - sure, basic mouseover image flipping javascript works, but any attempt to do somthing original fails to work in this otherwise worthy browser.

Jimbob: Links?!? But who needs frames? If you need frames you just use two pages. Trust me, no-one but the techiest of techies will use frames. No-one else will ever understand them!

I thought Opera was the all-singing, all-dancing, Little Miss Perfect HTML/CSS/DHTML standards browser?

Opera is my very special little girl. She's like a hot, tight 18 year old. Mmm, Opera.

Have you tweaked any settings at all, kaibutsu? I'm using Opera 7.1 and titles display just fine - whether the page is loading or loaded. Having just checked, I also note that I don't have the dhtml tags toggled on in my MeFi settings.

Normally I just drive over to Matt's house and browse the database files directly with vi. When I am forced to use opera 7.1, the title tags work fine. Is this a metafilter-only thing for you, or something that should be taken to the opera forums?

Yeah, it seems to be a MeFi only thing.... Titles are working fine in, for example, MeTa and 9622, but the Blue is givin' nothing where the source says there should be sumthin. Nem tudom. If it's working for all you others on Opera 7.1, I guess I can just chalk it up to the universe not liking me, and move on with me life.

MeFi looks fine in Opera 6.05 which, in my mind, is a better Opera release.
