Boston Meetup July 9, 2003 5:58 PM   Subscribe

Has Boston ever had a meetup? I can't find a record of one, so I'm going to suggest it.

My apologies if it happened and I wasn't cool enough to find out. We've got a lot of people in the area, so it seems like a neat idea despite our mutual distrust of strangers. I suggest Clery's, because it's central (and affordable despite that), but anything in technical Boston or Cambridge is worth discussing. Let's shoot for Thursday, the 31st of July.

And just so I don't need to create a new thread.. what about the UK? I get the feeling there's quite a lot of Brits here on MetaFilter.. yet I've seen nothing about a UK meetup.

I'd like to go to that........but I'll be in California until August 3rd.

Isn't Matt in Boston this weekend? I'd be up for that, if we could pull something together in just a day or two... and if you don't mind guests from Maine. :-)

let's do it.

i'm thinking of a meeting at either the squealing pig (good bar around the corner from me) or...mayor curley, help me out here. :)

well, I can't be there... still, I'd like to vote for "squealing pig".

I'm seconding taz's emotion.

Also, I think a Brit meetup needs it's own thread. But I don't want to get a reputation as the sort of person who starts MetaTalk threads. :)

I won't be able to make it if it's at the end of July, but I'll meddle nonetheless by suggesting Redbones in Davis Square, Border Cafe in Harvard Square, or bar-hopping along Mass Ave in Cambridge (The People's Republik, Good Life, etc).

Boston also has a fantastic Asian food scene, not only in Chinatown but in the immigrant neighborhoods of Somerville and Medford.

This weekend sounds like short notice for the summer (unless a ton of people can do it). Let's look for a date past August 3 to accomodate troutfishing.

Is The Squealing Pig on the E line to Roxbury? I've never been, but it looks intriguing if it's the place that I'm thinking of.

My vote's for August 14th or 15th
A weekday (14th) might be good for a big gathering not to overwhelm a bar/restaurant.

As for location - what about the Green Briar Pub over by St. E's hospital?

I signed up for the Boston Mefi meetups, but I do not intend to show up. If I do happen to show up, it will only be because I was on the guest list. I will watch quietly, with a blank stare. Do not expect me to dance. If you tell me to dance, I will talk ill of you behind your back.

If the timing was good, I would probably come to that.

K5 has pretty frequent Boston get-togethers. Anyone up for a big multi-site crossover April Fool's day 2002 type thing? :-)

Weeknights ae not ideal, as I would be traveling from 04101. K5 crossover sounds pretty fun. I think it should be at the bar geographically closest to the server.

There's gonna be dancing?

Anastiav, wanna carpool? I'm got broadband in Portland. You can email Jakey at a roadrunner address.

i can do any of those dates, remarkably, and i hate my soon-to-be-new job so drinking = good. let's make it august.

and yes, the pig is on the e line to roxbury.

I'm in Boston. I rarely make plans more than a day in advance, so the old schedule is pretty open. I like pigs.

Specific dates in August, then? I'm going to suggest some soon if no one else does. Then we'll settle location.

Just about any Friday or Saturday night in August is good for me, if we decide now. On location, is there no love for Bukowski's? Sure, it's beer and wine only, and kinda small, but it is a pretty cool place (and more convenient to get to for suburbanites than a spot on the E-Line).

Might be awkward for everyone else, but actually a Tuesday or Wednesay night would be best for me. I'll be in the vicinity anyway. Fridays and Saturdays are doable but require a special trip.

mayor, wouldn't the easiest location be the park bench you're welded to?

Fri-Sat are doable for me, as is possibly in the week.

how about The OtherSide? it seems like the most MeFi place in Boston to me....

Soooooo, when and where? The planning seems to have died out.
