The Brill's Content thing deserves its own thread: Looks like we've gotten about 500 new members in the past 24 hours, judging by the member numbers at the top of the page.

And I just got my copy in the mail today, along with (I'm assuming) the rest of the BC subscribers in Manhattan. Our boy Rock Star Matt is looking mighty sexy standing there in Times Square. If I had a decent scanner, I'd link to a pic.

I think they did an excellent job in the article, very balanced and fair. Great analogies to sites like MediaNews. The sidebar (for those who don't have the print mag) lists Plastic, Zannah's usr/bin/girl, RobotWisdom, Disturbing Search Requests, Kottke, and Steve Champeon's A Jaundiced Eye as good blogs. And the requisite link to Blogger.

yeah, most/many of the newest users are 5k commenters. I was too hasty in thinking it was magazine effects.

Why is it that the magazines that are supposedly the most media/Net-conscious - Brill's, YIL, etc - are the ones that are the least willing to put their content online until well after publication, if ever?

Because they're Net-conscious enough to know that if they put it up simultaneously, a large chunk of cheapo readers (myself included in most cases) won't bother picking the paper version up at the newstands. YMMV

Can I just say that I went to 2 newsstands and 3 bookstores today looking for the damn magazine, and nobody had the new one yet? Damn it.

I was gonna say. What's the cover supposed to look like? Is it the April issue?

Both Borders stores I've been to have only had the Yello CNN cover, April issue. I checked each page the second time and couldn't find any mention of Matt.

Got it at Border's today. Good article, even found a few new sites to check out -- it's rare for a print magazine to do me that favor.
