Just when you think MeFi has gone to the dogs, you discover it has really gone to the kitties.
I was thinking what with six posts in a week, jcterminal was going to be a candidate for the Full Treatment soon. Precedents abound.

heh. and I almost deleted it this morning. I thought "wtf? a thread about a cute kitty photo?" Lucky I waited until I got my caffine hit, before deciding whether or not to ax the thread.

If part of our mission, here, is to find interesting things on the web... and to have interesting discussions, then the kittie link had a double.
But that's not to say that I really want to see anything remotely like it for, say, another 6 months at least.

At first I thought it was a joke, then I realised it was for real which made me really worry about MeFi (kitty photos are so, you know, 1996 homepage).
But the masses have spoken and somehow it seems OK this time. Just this time please.
If I see any puppy/baby/cute kid with chocolate around their mouth threads I'll know it's all gone too far.

Y'know, I think a cute kitty thread was just what the community needed right now. jcterminal is a freakin' genius. But I think it was implicit that this was an anomalous event. I certainly would hate to see this place turn into KittyFilter.

Mathowie. This post seemed to me to set a bad tone for what is a quite topical news event that I would probably normally comment on.
I understand the poster intended sarcasm (because he later said as much) however even so, it isn't working. It's too mixed in with a topic that to my mind clouds the issue.
In this case, I don't mind if it remains or not, but sometimes, I regret that a post has been handled clumsily because the (very good) double post rule precludes people from starting a decent thread on the topic. Anyway, most of the time I'm not aware of them. (bad posts) Don't even see them. Thanks.

Next time anyone gets to thinking that MeFi'ers are too cool for school, just remind 'em that all it took was one guy posting a cute kitty picture to bring out the softie in us all.
