International MetaFilter Meetup day is in 19 days April 15, 2004 10:49 AM Subscribe
Meetup.com tells me that International MetaFilter Meetup day is in 19 days. I'm actually willing to leave the compound and venture forth to the Dallas meeting...who's with me? Where else are gatherings planned? Anyone have any idea how we could wirelessly do our gatherings together?
I'll be in NYC from April 30-May 3rd, anyone want to get together for some drinks on saturday night?

Austin, baby.
Too bad the Saxon Pub isn't on the list @ Meetup.com. We're playing that night after Honey Browne, that'd be cool!

It must be time for another UK gathering too - anyone for London on 4th May?

dejah, leia, whoever else is coming to Dallas for this, let's organize via e-mail like last time. The meetup site is horrible and I don't wanna hog up MeTa too much. So e-mail me at ufezjonesyahoocom and I'll get a list together so we can begin discussing locations.

I was seriously thinking the other day "whatever happened to the filmic storyteller on mefi?" Great to hear you're still alive and kicking bingo.

I'm up for an Austin meetup. I quit getting the meetup notices since they never seemed to come to pass. And, psycotic we don't need to just go to places that meetup.com recommends but I don't think Saxon has wireless access if we wished to connect to other MeFi cities.
Would someplace like Halcyon work in the ATX?

Yo, I'm up for an Austin meetup too. Wherever, just let me know, I'm not picky.

anyone for London on 4th May
Given that No 1 will be in London some time in June, I thought it might be quite nice to organise a meetup for then. I don't know what anybody else (esp. Matt) thinks about this, but that's my preference.

Saxon Pub sounds great for an Austin meetup, regardless of what meetup says. Not only will there be mefite music and mmm, beer, it's right around the corner from my house. Win!

Us Noo Yawkers can set something up, or we can follow your lead -- whatever you'd like.

New York City checking in. Here are some proposals. Jon, Vidiot: please weigh in early so we can get a consensus. It'd be great if we could get some of the old-time bloggers in NYC to come, people like Anil, Jason, and Cam (although I imagine, Matt, you might be seeing these fellows elsewhere).
Date: May 1
Time: 8 p.m.
Possible locations:
Enid's, on the edge of Williamsburg and Greenpoint in Brooklyn, intersection of Manhattan and Driggs Aves. Advantages: no longer so fashionable, so unless there's a show at Warsaw, it's rarely crowded that early. Drinks are cheap. Disadvantages: It's in Brooklyn. Manhattanites will have to put on their moon suits so as to be able to survive in the foreign atmosphere of low-key conviviality and tepid hipness.
Pioneer Bar, the Bowery just above Spring Street. We've met at this one before. Disadvantages: now gets supremely and hugely overpacked by 10 p.m. However, that means humanoids sexed according to your personal preference are more likely to be available for scoping and macking. Advantages: big, big, space. Centrally located so that Manhattanites don't have to make up wills before leaving town.
Mehanata, at Canal and Broadway. Choire at Gawker says this placed closed, but I can find no confirmation of whether it was for good. Disadvantages: it's absolutely insane, though past it's buzz peak. This is not your local. Advantages: Our Dear Leader will not suffer from boredom.
Other suggestions welcome.

Pfui. I disdain "buzz" and "hipness" I vote for either Enid's or the Bohemian Hall beer garden in Astoria -- hearty Czech food, good Czech beer (they have Budvar! On tap!), and it's glorious when the weather is nice.

NYC: I live right by Enids, so of course, ENIDS! And it really is nice inside - and you can walk from the Bedford L stop 10 minutes to it. Unless the Big Giant #1 appearance changes things. The beer garden is equally good.
