Bookmark exchange thanks.
In this post Shepherd suggested a book mark exchange and mine arrived today.
Thanks to Shepherd for both idea and execution and to everyone who sent in bookmarks. I got a lovely selection, including a library one you can use to track your reading (I mean, I use StoryGraph, but more manual methods are also good) and 3 bookmarks for non Anglophone bookshops.
If other people taking part could check in, that would be lovely.
Calling all Cards!
Having just mailed my cards for Project G.I.V.E. M.E. (that is, Great Internet Valentine Exchange, Metafilter Edition), and having had at least as much fun as I did with the winter holiday cards, I'm wondering if there's enough momentum and interest for another project. [more inside]
Time zone pony request
Not having updated my preferences for a while, I was a little taken aback when posting a comment today that I had somehow gone back in time two hours. I then realised it was the whole Australia having moved onto DST while the US has moved off it thing. So a small pony request: instead of having to manually adjust the time offset in terms of +/– hours from the server time, would it be possible to choose a particular time zone, so that it would automatically change along with local changes such as daylight savings?

Reading the room on international posts
I was a bit disappointed when the recent thread about Iceland's elections devolved into lolz pretty much from the get go. Would it be possible for us as a community to be a little more conscious of how we approach posts about other countries? [more inside]
#GlobalVoices / #NonWestNov / #GlobalSouthSept
In the spirit of the success of #JulyByWomen, and with viggorlijah's permission, I would like to propose another month dedicated to Mefi posts from outside the West. [more inside]
(mis)handling non-US content
Between the comments on this post about a story written by a Singaporean writer and the framing of this post about Storypick, I feel like Metafilter does not do non-American content well. [more inside]
You mean there are other countries?
What is up with all these non-US political posts this week? Examples: Canada, the UK, Singapore [more inside]

A Multi-Region, Multi-National, MeFi Reusable Shopping Bag Swap. Interested? [more inside]
So it's "ranty" when a non-American calls out US behaviour, hey?
This is not my beautiful country

Beemermefites - come out, come out wherever you are!
[subset-of-a-subset-filter] MetaFilter's 10th Anniversary coincides with BMW Motorcycle Owners of America's International Rally in Johnson City, TN. Are there any other beemermefites who are game for a meetup-within-a-rally? [more inside]
MeFi International
Is MeFi getting less international? This is entirely based on subjective impressions but it seems like we’re seeing a lot less posts outside of regular US waking hours. Is this just something that happens every 4 years because of all the election posts?
What happened to ?? ?
What happened to 김치? Because if for nothing else, he actuated this and i liked it.
plus the caps lock thread kicks this year's anniversay thread in the ash.

is anything happening with the members nearby feature?
As a follow-up to this post from last year, is anything happening with the members nearby feature being extended to cover people that don't have a zip code? If the latitude and longitude thing is too much work can we group people outside the US by country?
Can international users be added to the 'users near you' feature?
How about adding some mechanism whereby we Canadian users (and/or further abroad, but I don't know how complex that could get) could join the "Users near this user" crowd? Obviously we would have to provide postal codes, but the mechanism must exist, since it is used on several other site.
As far as integrating it with the US one, well, I don't know if that would be possible, let alone plausible, but it'd be a nifty addition.

Global meetup reminder.
Meetup Chaos: MetaFilter's first Rome/St. Louis/NYC/OKC/Dallas meetup is coming at 'cha like a Texas haymaker. This Friday (uh, in Dallas) down at Monica's (in Deep Ellum) we'll be having dinner. Shenanigans will continue long into the night... (more inside)
International MetaFilter Meetup day is in 19 days
Meetup.com tells me that International MetaFilter Meetup day is in 19 days. I'm actually willing to leave the compound and venture forth to the Dallas meeting...who's with me? Where else are gatherings planned? Anyone have any idea how we could wirelessly do our gatherings together?
How international is MeFi?
Is there anyway of telling how strong the 'outside-America' contingent is on MeFi?
How international are we?

Donating to MeFi from overseas (UK)
This is a right piss-off.

Global meetup day!
T-minus-one week until the MetaFilter Meetup. Let's have one reference thread where we can post solely the City, Location and Time. I would save discussion for e-mail or something like this. Meetup still, to my knowledge, hasn't changed any of the suggested locations due to requests or "here's where we're going to meet, whether you like it or not"s. Amid the confusion (1,2), we need clarity. This will hopefully also be good enough for Matt to post to the sidebar for the non-MeTa people. I'll start, and remember, nice, simple, and clean...

Just how international are we?
Just how international are we?
It seems to me all the other well-known and popular American and European community weblogs and websites are far more parochial and North America-centred than MetaFilter. Not so with us. This makes, I think, all the difference. We have (off the top of my head and as far as I know) members from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Holland, india, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, The Philippines, Portugal, Scotland, Wales, Spain...and who knows what other countries?
So just how widely cast is the MetaFilter users' web?[Lurkers: Please break your vow of silence, just this once, if you possibly can!] Me, I suspect it spans the whole beautiful Planet...
