MeTa "More Inside" September 18, 2004 10:34 PM   Subscribe

Can we start using [more inside] in metatalk? It's a pain to come upon posts like This one after they've had their desired effect and the comment has been deleted. Because you have to basically guess what is being complained about. [MI]

[Kwantsar posted: This isn't funny. Though I concede that the probability of anyone actually doing it is remote, the comment is nonetheless inappropriate.]

"This" has been deleted. So there is no link to explain what he's complaining about, and you'll have to read the thread before you realise that someone probably posted about mixing two dangerous chemicals.

I don't think that it happens that often. But when it does I get a slight thrill in trying to work out what kind of massacre went down before The Cleaner got in.

No matter where you use [more inside], just don't use [mi], because [mi] is an annoying abbreviation.

I didn't really understand the point of what you were saying bonaldi, but now I think you mean put a "more inside", and then describe the offense, correct? So Kwantzar's inside comment would be something like "In response to an AskMe question about how to make your own fabric refresher, a poster makes a joke by recommending mixing bleach and ammonia, which can be a lethal combination."

I don't have much of an opinion on this suggestion, but I am curious:

Matt - when you delete a comment, like crazy_finger's, do you consider also deleting ones that are directly related to it, like namespan's? I've seen you yank whole combative dialogues based on certain comments that went too far, but how do you draw the line with how much to delete, once you've decided that something has to go?

I'm just interested to know your approach, consummate admin that you are.

I also think that deleted comments shouldn't be removed wholesale, but replaced by something like "[comment deleted] posted by [user]". It's really weird, to me anyway, to come across a thread that's been decimated with no sign that it happened.

That was going too far even for you, quonsar! ;-P

Taz has it. Don't know where the fuck quonsar gets off saying that, though.
