West coast meetups December 19, 2004 7:28 PM   Subscribe

It's certainly been a contentious couple of weeks in MeTa! I'm hoping we can get back up to MEETUPS. Seattle, Vancouver, and San Francisco, I'm looking at you! [+]

I'll be in Seattle 12/24 through 1/8, with a visit to Vancouver (as yet unscheduled) during that time. Then, meetup.com suggests 1/14 for the next MeFiSF. How about it?

Oh yeah, straight dissin' Portland.

I see how it goes.

Don't miss a caitlinb meetup. I've heard there may be hijinks involved.

I didn't forget Po[rt]land, far from it! I just can't get down there on this trip, and believe me, it's not that I don't want to.

week after Xmas, but not the 27, looks good to me.

I think, maybe, we can rule out New Year's Eve?

I'd love to meet fellow MeFites in Vancouver! Might even drive to Seattle too. Pls keep me posted...

...ah, for Seattle. sorry.

San Francisco: I can't make Wednesday nights, but any other weeknight works for me. Probably.

This time I have an elaborate excuse: Middle to end of January is a complete zoo at work since a month's worth of backlogged projects that have been "on hold" through December come bursting out the gate in a rapid sequence. I'll probably be churning out 3-4 releases a week for a while, each of which keeps me in the office late. Chances are slim.

I'd love an SF meetup. I'm planning a move there and it'd be great to meet some locals before I go. I can make it if it's not too early on the 14th, or anytime on the 15th.

I'd be up for a Vancouver meetup. Let us know when you're in town.

What do you mean "we", white man? Some of us Seattlites have nothing planned for this most hallowed of Eves.

I might be up for a Vancouver and/or Seattle meetup.

If it's after the first, I'm up for Seattle or maybe even Vancouver or Po'land.

I'm ready for a San Francisco meetup as long as it isn't at the Zeitgeist like last time.

I meant, 'finding a place to have a nice meetup on NYE could be tricky.' Not that you will show up or anything, dan. ;)

I've been thinking about going south and visiting Seattle for a little while, so a meetup is as good an excuse as any.

This means, cmonkey, you need to make the effort as well. We can crash under a bridge somewhere that night, each taking shifts to keep interlopers out of our camp. We'll make s'mores and drink cooking wine.

Now then, someone tell me when.

Feh, whiny MeTa pushed this off the page fast.

OK, here's how it looks so far:
Jan 14th (Fri) in SF. We skipped Zeitgeist last time, but I'm happy to skip it again. Nominations for places? I suggest Toronado (Haight & Fillmore).

Seattle: No date set; kindall can't meet up before Jan 1, so I suggest after Jan 1. Sal, you are so welcome in Seattle, and since I plan to go to both, perhaps we can have cupcakes twice.

Vancouver: I don't know my dates for sure yet, so I'm pretty flexible. I am leaning toward some weeknight before New Year's Eve for Vancouver.

I'll reopen the Vancouver thread in plain sight at the end of the week, too.

I know this guy with a house on Capitol Hill...

Not that you will show up or anything, dan.

Using the laws of Binary Probability, there is a 50% chance I will show at the gathering in question. Using the loathesome standard probability, that figure is much higher. Then again, perhaps this is only an elaborate ruse designed to trick people into traveling ever farther to attend a Seattle event. But I've said too much...

I want to see the wily Danelope! I am committed to a Seattle meetup. I have to go all over the place this holiday season. That doesn't mean other people have to, too. As for the Capitol Hill vs Other Places issue, I tend to prefer Capitol Hill. And it got to looking like you were planning to make the Elysian your MeFiSea HQ. Thinking of branching out?

Could make the SF meeting as long as it's *not* on the 14th - it's the only evening in January that I have an unbreakable commitment! rats!!!! what are the odds?

I, for one, welcome our Elysian overlords. Dates, people? Dates?

(AskMe refs coming up in 3, 2, 1...)

Also, I'll have some chips and salsa. BTW, could we consider looking at the VI?

As for dates, I'm off New Year's Eve and don't have to return to work until the 4th, so any time during that period would be ideal for me.

Here's a last minute FYI:

Tonight, Thursday, the 23rd of December, 20004, the Broomdusters, a young band of Jack's acquaintance, have a party starting at 6:30 PM at or near the barbeque place on NW 65th street and 20th Avenue NW.

I got to play slide on electric guitar with a drummer--I was the opening act, so to speak, for Jack and Jana and friends: whoo hoo!--at a similarly themed Christmas party last night. It was at a pottery store named Regnor's in Ballard, where, among the pots, there was a ceramic bust of a Viking warrior on display. It can not get much more Seattle than that, I tells ya...

Jack Cook, et al. will be appearing at the Alki Tavern on the day after Christmas, it being the last Sunday in the month. He just told me that today along with all the rest of this--hence such short notice, for which I apologize.

caitlinb - keep me posted, I'd be delighted to meet you and meet fellow Vancouver MeFites. Vancouver MeFites - where do we all want to meet? Yaletown? Kits? the Drive?

I am figuring out my dates for Vancouver (27th? 28th?) and for a Seattle meetup (can you actually not show up after you "return to work," Danelope?) but since the once-a-week AskMe limit is extended to MeTa (?!?!?!), I can't start a new thread.

Anyone is welcome to do so! Please, do!

Well, my hours are certainly more flexible and less likely to be pre-empted by deadlines if I don't have to work at all, but I can do my best to make an event on another date. Don't let my goofy schedule be a limiting factor, is all.
