The Mefiverse is astounding. Phone call with one mefite prompts a, "hold on, mefi #2 is on CNN" which then prompts the story of how mefite #3 got mefite #2 on CNN in the first place and it all comes full circle back to blue, or grey, in this case.

I have recently come to understand Matt's true nefarious reasons behind Metafilter upkeep: World Domination.

This totally made my day. :)

what was adam doing on CNN?
posted by jonmc at 5:19 PM on March 29, 2005

He was talking about the downside of being a short guy in the dating pool.
posted by erisfree at 5:21 PM on March 29, 2005

Adam's not that short.

actually... I guess he's not that tall, but it was never noticeable really.

truly deserving of deep investigative exposure by CNN. i mean, ya know, given the current state of world affairs in general.

I remember when I saw Dong's book at Amazon.com. That's when I knew the world had gone apeshit crazy.

Or the time I got some CDs and saw a shoutout to MiguelCardoso in the liner notes.

Bullshit, ColdChef. Prove that.

how fun! was he really? (he's not that short at all)

on Paula Zahn?

"Bullshit, ColdChef. Prove that."

Maybe ColdChef likes Portuguese music.

Bullshit, ColdChef. Prove that.

I have no idea how to respond to that.

Oh, and a few years back, I was on Turner Classic Movies as part of a retrospective on "The Long Hot Summer" (which was filmed in my hometown), and I got emails from all over the country from MeFites who were like "Holy shit, Chef! I just saw you on the teevee."

That was pretty wicked.

It was, in fact, in the liner notes of a Portuguese album. I'll see if I can find it so that I can "prove" it to the non-believers.
posted by ColdChef at 5:52 PM on March 29, 2005

at least he wasn't the shortest--and he has no problem (at all) meeting people from what i've seen--he has at least 2 mefites of the female persuasion with crushes on him.
posted by amberglow at 5:53 PM on March 29, 2005

I'll back up CC on that one. Miguel sent me a copy of the same CD, with the same shout out. I also met some Euro guys in a bar who claimed to have heard of him and were impressed when I said he was my net-buddy.
posted by jonmc at 5:59 PM on March 29, 2005

Miguel designed the cover, if I recall.
posted by Pretty_Generic at 5:59 PM on March 29, 2005

Miguel is well known by all culturally-minded Portuguese.

we need a torrent or something of adam's star turn.

You are not mistaken, and a fantastic fucking album is is.

I feel so small and insignificant. It is comforting, yes.

a torrent would be good.

Of course, if you want to talk about Metafiltarians soaking in the limey-light, you can't beat when mathowie was on the cover of Brill's Content magazine.

I ran around showing that to everyone I knew, but nobody I knew cared.

BTW, I still have fifteen or so issues left, so if anybody wants one, let me know.
posted by ColdChef at 6:14 PM on March 29, 2005

Of course, that depends on what "is" is.

I would like to make it known I've not been on anything or know anyone that has been on anything. Although now that I think about it I was on something once and knew a lot of people that were too.

Sorry, that came off as much more hostile than I intended. I just wanted to see the album. ;)

MiguelCardoso also designed at least one record cover back in the late seventies/early eighties, if I'm not mistaken.... For Durutti Column or some such band.

indeed: he may be slightly not tall, but he's utterly snacky on the tv.

This whole Metafilter World Domination thing is going waaayyy too slowly. Hell, I don't know any Mefites other than quonsar that even have their weapons cache ready yet.

Cool! I was on CSPAN's BookTV last weekend debating a pseudo-scientist about gender differences.

*strech*

Oh, hey, y'all. Don't sweat the tivoing, the portion with me in it was so...short...that it isn't worth the megabytes (and it's not like they were asking my opinion on Tivo allowing advertisements on portions of the screen ;). I did have fun doing it, though, as I'd never heard of speed dating before, and it was hilarious (and quite fruitful). A little background here, and a list of silly questions I was debating on asking here.

Didn't ask those, but I did ask one girl if she would remove my feeding tube if I was in a persistent vegetative state.

*ducks*

Also, very cool, Adam.

Also also, I have a Miguel Cardoso liner notes album too.

Also also also, I have a grisly Miguel-shaped shrine made of human skulls in my basement, awaiting the day he will return and cleanse the world with his holy fire.

I translated into Latin a tag for a t-shirt that Rick Perlstein wore once.

Nothing else I've ever done is worthy of comment.

Did Miguel design the sandpaper cover for Durutti Column? That would be awesome.

Did someone mention Speeddating? I've just come home from one...what a bear pit! Bit bizarre to walk into my local for a relaxing drink afterwards & find a bunch of the people who I'd been dating just before...

adampsyche isn't very short, but if it's a schtick that's working for him, more power.
