Pictures from the Sydney meetup.
A great night of discussion. I've checked back and mea culpa, I suggested the Erko.

I know...maybe we can resolve all differences and settle on common ground. I wonder what's exactly halfway between Sydney and Melbourne? :)

I spent five years as a Sydney Inner Westie. I don't exactly envy you guys, but the photo of you heading up to King St really hit me in the nostalgia nuts.

Theres a meetup group in Melbourne and there has been an email sent out for a meeting, it's just that no one seems interested.

Strange sien - a fair few responses to the Sydney meetup were "Why not Melbourne/Brisbane?" I suspect Melbourne has roughly the same numbers as Sydney.

Probably better put as: That's strange. I didn't mean to call you strange sien.

I tried to organise one but it died. I'm not against trying again, there's even a travelling MeFite in Melb whom I may be meeting this week. Like I said: DO IT. Email in profile etc...

A Sydney thread derailed (?detrammed) by a Melburnian!
There must be a penalty surely.
Ummm...where's my interstate etiquette handbook?

oh--weird. Where'd they get that from?
(I hear Melbourne is more fun at night, and better shopping too.)

amberglow- it's because we're south of the border. And I won't tell you how much better the nightlife/shopping/food/coffee is here, you'll just have to take my word for it. Don't get me wrong, Sydney's ok, I will go there for a holiday, it's just I prefer Melbourne.

Is that this Thursday or next Thursday for a Melbourne MeFi Meetup (MelMefiMeet?).
I tried to get something going for next Thursday via Meetup.com - is anyone a member there posting here?

Sien- tomorrow (short notice, thread derail/hijack, I know). Come along, email in profile etc. I don't ususally read meetup.com, I just look here.
On preview, just looked, nothing there?

Well you learn something new everyday. I've lived in Sydney for just over thirty years and never heard Melburnians [Melbournians?] referred to as Mexicans but I see it's recorded in Hansard during an annual Daylight Saving debate.

I can't make it tommorrow night but I've put it up at meetup. I sent out an email with the announcement. Maybe next week or the week after for another meetup in Melbourne?

Bdave, I'm way past the point of rivalry (and it did take a good few years).
Melbourne is a very very fine city. A bit more classy, a bit less crowded. Nice food. Nice indoor stuff - buildings cafes etc. Nice countryside around it. I'd be happy to live there.
Sydney is for outdoors and summer - I couldn't imagine anywhere else better Nov-Feb. It is the happening thang. And I won't embarrass you by starting on BEACHES.

Yeah, well, both Melbourne and Sydney are not bad places to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there.
Beaches? Beaches? Melbourne has beaches? Yeah, right - if you like to break through the ice to go for a swim!

Umm....not sure where they are amberglow. (Syd or Melb for sure.....prolly Melb)
But they make me cringe - I like the girls in the show individually as comedians (outside of K+K), but that show is embarrassing, unbelievably atypical sterotyping and crass and really really really stupid. There's some things about which there ought to be a referendum before we let outsiders see them (or locals for that matter).
can you tell I'm not a fan
