Changing Screen Names April 28, 2005 6:21 AM   Subscribe

All I want to do is change my log in or screen name. I have searched the site, and see only that I should email Matt; and I have tried that, but he hasn't had the time, I guess, to respond.

I would rather not have to re-up to get a new name on here. Any suggestions?

She Was Like a Bearded Rainbow?

Why would you want to change that?

These first time picks can backfire. My XBox Live tag is gnomeboy... now I get everyone calling me gameboy or in the case of a group of Dutch guys, gayboy.
(which was more funny than annoying)

I like swlabr but some friends would ID me and I want to be able to "let it all hang out" on here, and who knows what that might be!

Oh, and that was correct stupidsexyflanders and funny soyjoy!

It's been awhile since I chose my user name, and I've thought it would be nice to change it to more represent me than to represent the community website I administer.

I've considered signing up with a new ID, but, like it or not, there's a definite cache for low user numbers and I'd prefer not becoming a noob after being here for so long.

It'd be sweet if Matt could give a name-changing amnesty to people who have been around for awhile, though I can see how it would be massively confusing, all ways around. I wonder if it could be diffused by having some mechanism like eBay uses?

4/28: Attempted to change MeFi account name. No luck.

4/29: Attempted to sell old MeFi account on eBay. No luck.

4/30: Attempted to give account away for free on SomethingAwful.com. No luck.
This internet thing really sucks...

I wanted to change my name after I signed up too (since I spelt Chungking Express wrong in my rush to get an account). There are worse things in life than a stupid user name.

No, that's two. goodnewsfortheinsane already summoned him by implication. Now all we need is the sound of a martini being poured...

1. It IS "walks."

2. Angelo Mysterioso? You don't know about that either??? That would be which Beatle appearing without license on what great album??

3. Here's another clue for you all: He was connedted to she who walked!

oh come on!

OK so it's "connected." So shoot me! :-)

Hmmm... Maybe that would be good: But, unfortunately, I'm not Portuguese. Maybe the safest thing would be to use a random word generator.

The problem with getting a new account is that, if you are essentially pathetic and want to brag about how long you have been on metafilter, you have to start over with the new name. Also, it's hard to keep track of two accounts and then people mock you for double-dipping. Most of these problems could be solved, at least in my case, by actually getting a life.

I know, swlabr, it just seemed like a good badge for you - tailor-made for you even.

All the best usernames are from songs.

All the better if they're your own songs, I guess :)

goodnewsfortheinsane, I choose "truly a zinger"! Thanks!

Not a problem. Tis all zest. Typing acrostics: zen.

swlabr doesn't have this problem at least; he's only been here for a few weeks and made only 11 comments. So unless there is a whopper of a comment lurking in those dozen posts he doesn't have much history to give up.
