ericbop, RockCorpse, you guys are both new but three paragraphs (389 words) / five paragraphs is a little large for a post.

I was just about to make a, ah, length suggestion here in MeTa myself. If you have that long a post, put an initial description on the front page, then add the rest as the first comment. If people are interested in the subject, they'll check out the whole post.

This especially applies to AskMe, where the page scrolls at light speed.

I agree completely. Long posts like this make shorter posts hard to find.

I know, I know, that was completely shameless.

I have to agree. Being almost right next to each other, they take up most of the front page. Perhaps a new MeTa tutorial on "how to do a graceful 'more inside'" is in order?

CAR!

Everyone know the rules now? Ok, cool.

GAME ON!

More agreement here also. Why even y2karl has shorter FPPs, most of the time. And the times he doesn't, its 'cause he isn't new here and is thus allowed.

I fixed the canadian murder one. The other one is kind of at the borderline.

I should just add more inside functionality to metafilter and be done with it.

jessamyn - maybe with posters permission / or not; you could clean up the mess and make some room for the other posts. And what's with this sportsfilter crap anyway.

Because we know you suck at sports and want to rub it in your face.

CATCH, wuss!

Lets start wondering what's up with IraqFilter while we're at it.

Eh? We can drone on endlessly, beating the same stupid political and religous arguments into the ground to the point that there can't possibly be anthing left.... then a guy makes one baseball post and we get a sportsfilter callout?

Guess we shouldn't let a baseball post in with all the "Christians/Bush are evil" and ContagiousMedia threads.

I say more sportsfilter, especially those that involve porn star moustaches.

What's all the fuss about??

If you're going to alter my post, could you at least link to it with a "more inside" link so that the point I was trying to raise (you know, for, like, people to have a thoughtful discussion about)
isn't completely vaporized?

And "jock post?!?" I guess it takes one to know one. Taking the "phor" out of "meta" since 1999...

iconomy, but was that one SportsFilter or PornFilter? Maybe its a whole new genre, SportsPornFilter?

ericobop, just take your lumps, learn your lesson and don't do it again next time. It was a good post but needed a little paring down for the front page.

ericbop, I think you should show a little grace and say "my bad" and next time put a little "more inside". Live and learn! :)

Now might be as good a time as any to mention SportsFilter, the rad MeFi offshoot that throws a much better curveball and runs a faster 50 yard dash. It will give you a swirlie.

Also, don't take yourself so seriously.

Dude, if people are interested in the post, they'll have no problem finding the continuation contained in the first comment. Chill.

q, that's hilarious. I love that kind of supercilious look on his face, with the flaring nostrils--it's like "Are you gonna take that?"

Good advice to follow. Otherwise someone will put the king's wife and a genre together and then all hell will break loose.

I think it started when Tom Waits caught a snapper on Fishing With John.
posted by scarabic at 11:22 PM on May 27, 2005

which reminds me of the episode of Fishing With John where Willem DaFoe tells John Lurie that he hates him because everyone else got to go fishing in nice places while DaFoe had to go ice fishing in below zero weather.
