Who are your favorite MeFites, and why? November 29, 2005 4:58 PM   Subscribe

Who are your favorite MeFites, and why? We all know about (and secretly enjoy) the feuds, the hissy fits, the sniping, but what about those folks whose advice or comments you consistently enjoy? Please give one (1) example for any or all of the following categories, and link to one (1) example of said sterling statement.*

#1 Smartest/most learned
#2 Most interesting/creative/off-the-wall (in a good way)
#3 Most thought-provoking
#4 Funniest

Well, "like," is a strange way of putting it. There's people like say, matteo, Faze, davy and dame who occasionally drive me crazy but are never boring and often brilliant. Then there's consistently hilarious people like ColdChef and Kafkaesque. And there's the peaceable types like bugbread who are good at smoothing out stuff.

They're better men/women than I (I never let my ignorance dissuade me from yapping away).

LH is a good dude, plus he's a self-admitted Persophile, so he gets some love in return. And I agree with jonmc that Divine_Wino is up there too. His comment in the "shaving thread" had me literally rolling. And I liked the unfinished short story I read on his blog. I hope he finishes it.

Like I said there are a lot more users I like, but I don't want them to take out restraining orders against me, so I'll just keep it to myself.

Since "danger zone" is a rather vague term, likely some kind of lurid innurendo, I must fall back on the complete lyrics of the iconic rock song, which disambiguate the "danger zone" as something you can go "right into," even something someone could take someone else "right into." [shudder] I couldn't quote the temperature of this particular region without better instrumentation, but it's fair to say hot, higher than middlin' humidity, and precipitation is expected. As much as I like you, I'm fairly sure I don't want you there at this time, much less have I provided a highway in anticipation of mass transit thereto.

And Space Kitty?

Holy crap! This whole thread was worth it just to find out they're remaking The Prisoner.

That's proof that you're more optimistic than I am. To me, that'd be like saying "This whole messy one-sided divorce was worth it just to find out that Dad's re-marrying to a much younger, stupider woman!"

Ok, the dhoyt thread reached 700. I can now comment here.

My favorite MeFites (and MeChatters) are those who have ever given me a shoutout. I'm looking at Smart Dalek, mudpuppie, and Lola_G. Plus we all know jonmc is my music-hero. But I'd also like to register that I like dios, don't hate PP, and have never had a problem with AlexRothko. I love MetaFilter as a community, so it's safe to say I love you all (as a collective; individually, you're assholes). The whole is greater than the sum of the parts, dude.

I admit that I didn't actually read this thread; I just hit Control-F to see if I had been mentioned. I hadn't, and now I am sad.

Dude. You've got a Holiday Carol that's nothing but you being mentioned over and over. Most of us will (probably) never have that.

The Prisoner will NOT be remade!! He is a Free Man!!!

I like you in 30,000 different ways. But teriyaki and tempura would have to be my favorites.

Alas! and Alack! For it is in vain that I search these lists with fevered brow and burning eye for that name which I do call myself. Woe is me. And thus I am forced to fling myself over the cliffs of dispair and onto the jagged rocks of rejection in the hopes that some day, some kind soul will come upon my broken and battered body and shed a single tear for

She Who Is Not Loved.

I keep doing a "find in page" for "poppo" but it keeps going all the way to the bottom. It's probably a bug, don't worry I'll make a MeTa thread for it

The fact that edverb has not been mentioned is astounding; he brings so much intellectual firepower to the discussion that I honestly hope that we never disagree, because I would lose badly. I don't necessarily like popularity contests but he is really really fantastic and I swear I am not his sock puppet.

And languagehat's essay David Foster Wallace Demolished brought me here way before I could register, so thanks for that.

Arguing about DFW's essay in Harper's about Brian Garner's usage book is what put languagehat on the map for me.

Well, not even close to 30,000 actual people, to be honest. But we've had that discussion before, too many times. A few thousand regular visitors, was the last Matt said, as I recall.

Yes, I know. Still, it's an awfully large number of registered accounts.

2002 was really the best time around here. Miguel was revving up to full posting steam. Click on that "3 years ago" link and you wont be dissapointed.

OK, I'm adding Category #5: Best username (and nominating you, FoB!)

Oh, and loquacious? Not so fast, meester — that chafing mantle is yours as long as I say so. (However, the position could use a runner-up, and fishfucker would look fetching in that sash-n-tiara combo.)
