login and new comment info on post pages? December 19, 2005 12:39 AM   Subscribe

Dear #1,

Could we have
"You are logged in as: null terminated / logout
There have been no new questions and 2 comments posted since your last visit"

on the post pages?

Thanks,

Um, could we please not take so much space up on the front page? Cutesy gimmicks like letter formats bump other folks' posts.

my deepest

apologies.

I'm curious as to why you would want this.

I usually click through to get to this page. Is there a better way to do this? (I'm not loving the "My Comments" page)

I'm with null. All pages should give me this useful information, not just selected ones.

I'm not sure what you mean.

is this even remotely true?

I thought that the number of posts on the front page was determined by... the number of posts. Not their length. I mean, if it's determined by the length of the post, doesn't that mean that one exceptionally long post (which would obviously be deleted or converted to a [mi] would obliterate EVERY OTHER post on the page, before it was fixed?

Maybe mediareport was talking about the visual space. We're used to one- or two-line intros with maybe a "more inside" thingy... and posts that that use hard returns, blockquotes, &tc. push other stuff down and disrupt our usual front-page scanning of three or four posts "above the fold".

The worst thing I ever did on MeFi blue was to do idiosyncratic formatting of a fpp... because it was a nice poem sort of thing and I wanted to try to reproduce the impact of how it was presented on the page I was linking to. Big mistake, though, because half the (very few - hey, it was a post about poetry, what do you expect?!) comments were just about that formatting choice.

I usually just click on the 'Posting as: stavrosthewonderchicken (logout)' just above the text input box...

You want a link to your own user page on every page? Is that what you're asking for?

And what does it have to do with a random question about finding a church?

matt: I could certainly use a link to my profile on the more comments page.

Bah, my comments. Sorry. I should remember to eat breakfast before posting to MeFi.

Basically, he's asking that the "You are logged in" info is treated like the page header, appearing on every page on Mefi. I've also noticed this and think it would be nice to have. (Sometimes you're reading comments or answers and you want to be able to click on your profile, but you have to go back to one of the 3 main pages first.)

(Although I suppose, at the bottom, there is Posting as: knave and I've never thought to click there.)

I'll just add "My Profile" to the nav then.

Yes. Adding whitespace for no reason is kinda silly. Or kinda rude. Kinda both, actually.

I'm sorry, but my name isn't null terminated. I'd be miffed it that appeared on every page I view.
