Yahoo Answers opens a web services API for developers.

I posted this here instead of the blue because I don't think it's really so interesting, except that it would be cool if AskMe implemented the same API so you could run the same tools against both sites.

Kinda odd when I saw this earlier, since I'm not sure what the use case is for it.

I guess if you ran a car site or something, you could pull in relevant questions in a sidebar or something? What else could you do with a API like that?

Run your tool against it, duh.

Portal stuff, I imagine.

Needs more XML, and some sort of dynamic javacripting.

I have no clue what to do with their API. It's a solution looking for a problem.

But when they find that problem, I want AskMe on it like a fat kid on smarties.

Thanks for posting this, so I was steered to the best yahoo answers question ever.

That place is a goldmine.

It's a solution looking for a problem.

Well, I already have my plate full of actual problems, so unless someone can come up with a novel use of an API, there's no sense in me trying to run something like this.

The best part of Yahoo Answers has to be the avatars. Everyone looks like a member of 'N Sync.

I love the politics section:
  • What is it within Arab societies that justifies Muslim terrorism?
  • why do people blame lack of medical coverage on illegal immigrants? BILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR A WAR?
  • TO all who caRE?
  • americans seem to want the rest of the world to be americans: so why are they so mad about immigration?
  • When democrats lose in November. Where will the immigrate to?
  • why do people think that marijuana makes you hallucinate? [<--- yes, this was really in politics]
It's like the Jeopardy version of NewsFilter. 'Please phrase your partisan strawman in the form of a question.'

Jeez...

"Why does the media keep saying terrrorist caused 9/11 Instead of saying Israel attacked US on 9/11/01.?"

That was the auto-generated frontpage on the "best-of" link.

How come those posters have levels? Are they gaining experience by helping people?

I loved this answer to that "best question ever" part of which was "Yes dosnt al-quaeda sound more jewish than arabic?"

Because Israel and USA are allies, and USA has always backed Israel. And perhaps it does sound more Jewish than Arabic, I wouldn't know, but I know they are in the same region, and have been fighting over it for many generations. Sometimes Israel has it, somtimes others have it, but i believe that according to the Bible, the land belongs to the Israelites. Anyway, my point being, that with the wars there for centuries, that the languages have probably mingled, at least a little. I could be wrong.
