Can anyone help me understand why this post was deleted?

Can anyone help me understand why this post was deleted? The admin note was a little cryptic (no offense). I've read the FAQ, as far as I can tell it doesn't fall under self linking, although it could perhaps kind of be considered a double posting or re-posting as it were. Anyway, it was a post I enjoyed originally, and I just wanted to point out to people that it was working again - didn't want to piss anybody off. Maybe stuff from MeFi Projects isn't supposed to be posted in the blue? Any input is appreciated.

If the original link to randomproxy was posted instead of a link to a previous Mefi thread it would have been a double post.
Because the deleted post was referring to a previous metafilter post, that means it goes in Metatalk -- for it was talking about Metafilter.
The deleted post would have been fine if it was posted here.

You posted, as a front page post, a pure conversation. Posting to the front page requires a new, interesting link to the web (outside MetaFilter). You didn't do that. MetaFilter (the Blue) isn't a chatroom. It's a meeting place for all things crazy, weird, and cool on the web.

This site shares some similarities with a message board, but we don't just "bump old conversations up". A new post to MeFi requires a new link to something interesting on the web. Posts that are updates to older posts are very rarely done, and usually only after years have passed and something significant has changed.

Yupe - it may have been unintentional, but the only link in your post was to a Metafilter thread. That's where the "cryptic" admin note came from I think.

The post was a LINK TO A METAFILTER THREAD, only. These are never, under any circumstances, appropriate for a front page post. There are few hard and fast rules here, but that is one of them: any threads about MetaFilter go to MetaTalk. Sorry if I was cryptic.

Metafilter is NOT the best of the web. Please do not link to it. Find a link to Fark or BoingBoing instead.

well, to be fair, blue_beetle, at that point it'd be reflexive linking, or I guess you'd say AutoFilter, and then people would get confused and ask about car repair. It's better if we just avoid it altogether.

Thanks for clearing me up, sorry for the bad FPP. Hopefully my confusion is understandable as I didn't have a site to link to so much as a new IM function. Regardless, now I know what to do next time.

I just assume any internet acronym of more than four letters means "quietly taking my pants off again." Then I don't have to google the meaning, and threads like this are vastly more entertaining.
