Can we request posts to be made by other people? September 26, 2006 12:13 PM   Subscribe

Just a thought....in what location could we put blue requests? Ie. if I wanted someone to make an excellent post about something or someone I had interest in, but I don't have the expertise or the time, where would such a request be made?

I hear John Updike is available.

This is a push technology, not a pull technology.

Does anyone want a post about the invention of the Reuben? Let me know!
posted by Plutor at 1:39 PM on September 26, 2006

I'd rather just have a Reuben.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why couldn't you just post a question in the green regarding whatever you wanted to know more about?

danb said 'Maybe I'm missing something, but why couldn't you just post a question in the green regarding whatever you wanted to know more about?'

And then you could make a post from the resulting answers. CollaboraFilter.

Please more posts about:

1. Pirates
2. Monkeys
3. Strippers
4. Fire

For a school project, you understand.

My posts are generated every 24 hours by a team of 100 monkeys randomly hitting keys on their laptops. If you just wait long enough, the monkeys will get to your topic, kickstart. I promise.

jonson, if you'd stop taking away the monkeys for illicit "extra-curricular activities", that would happen a lot sooner :)

Anyway, I was wondering because I could easily see a list of requested FPPs being removed from the green and called-out against if done here.

In any case, what prompted this was a documentary on ground water on TV last night, which talked about pathogens and embalming chemicals leeching from cemetaries into public drinking water. I don't know enough about the subject to make a post, nor even enough to research one, but I was thinking maybe someone else here did and that interested me in having someone do a FPP about it.

There have been at least a couple of front page posts derived from requests in MetaTalk.

I don't know how Matt feels about this, but I think MetaTalk would be the appropriate place to post such requests or work on such collaborations - though it'd be just as easy to do the collaboration part via email or any forum/msg board, after the initial request.

But it'd be more more interesting and less "exclusive" to be able to transparently see the process unfold here in MeTa.

It would also be a nice, productive change of pace from surgically inserting new anal perforations in spammers and such.

1. E-mail your favourite user.
2. Ask them to do it for you.
3. Wait (don't hold your breath).

For a mere $50US (non-refundable research fee), I will craft a front page post about any topic you want. It will contain at least 2 links. No monkeys will be harmed during this process.
posted by crunchland at 3:47 PM on September 26, 2006

How much extra would it cost to include having monkeys harmed in the process?
posted by dg at 4:26 PM on September 26, 2006 [1 favorite]

I handroll posts for $25, include three topical links, each vetted and backed by the ever-popular ^ wikpedia links, all while flogging an entire troop of monkeys into a yowling, furry froth.

Act now and recieve an additional bonus link and a free (via) or [more inside].

I can, of course, not include the wikipedia links - but this will incur a customization charge of $500. Per caret.

I'll undercut all these jerks. What do you want?

$50? My one FPP, in the blue, was written as a contract job I found on Monster.com. I was paid $250 to write it.

Nothing, except your forgiveness for the couple of real nice fellas who'll be visiting you tomorrow to peaceably discuss your obviously delinquent "insurance" payments. Cash only, please.

Don't mind the bats they might be, you know, casually carrying. They just want to take you out to a nice ball game.

I'd like to see an FPP that brings together Reuben sandwiches, the USS Reuben James, and the similarly-named painter of fat women.

Sensibly, of course. There's no point in being silly about it.

where would such a request be made?

Metachat. Surprised no one's mentioned it, good posts have come from discussions there.

We're not allowed to mention metachat any more. The metachumps get angry when we do.

Could I get a slice of pie with that?

Funny, but the folks who complain here about using Metachat for various Mefi-support functions never seem to be the folks I see regularly posting to Metachat. Strange, that.

I'll stand by the recommendation: Metachat would be the perfect place for Kickstart70 to get his post needs fulfilled.
