Based on what catburger says next in that thread, I think SirStan said something in between the first and second comments by nj_subgenius, to which the second comment was responding. This thread is perhaps supposed to point out that the response seems incoherent now that the prompting comment is gone?
posted by Partial Law at 8:23 PM on December 19, 2006

So the tea service was moved in here? I can see why, this thread is very roomy.
posted by lekvar at 8:23 PM on December 19, 2006

Well, since this is totally opaque to me, I'll just note that:

nj_subgenius=bunnies_jugs

and leave it at that.
posted by googly at 8:25 PM on December 19, 2006

Huh, an incoherant Metatalk thread to point out an incoherant AskMeta thread. I guess that makes sense, somehow?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero at 8:25 PM on December 19, 2006 [1 favorite]

Further theorizing: SirStan probably asked the quite reasonable while simultaneously quite unhelpful question: "Why would you run a program like that if you weren't having any problems?"
posted by Partial Law at 8:26 PM on December 19, 2006

No, I think it's more elaborate than that. Does this have anything to do with a ski resort? Who wants to go out to the middle of the desert with me?

SirStan had a slightly less than helpful "wtf are you doing" type response which I removed before there was a follow-up. I IMed him to let him know and he posted something else.

Also, I agree with both the sentiment that Christmas makes people fucking nuts and that this is the stupidest MeTa of the day. The worst part is that it may not be the stupidest one of the month (or even week). Not only posting a callout about a comment you yourself made (it appears), but doing so within 8 minutes of posting the comment in the first place? Scraping the depths of the sea of pointlessness a bit, aren't we?

I can't help but wondering if nj_subgenius (what's the neologism here? eponyrisible? nomilarious?) posted the thread, then suddenly realized the silly thing he'd done, and ran away in a panic waving his hands in the air with his hair on fire, going 'woocha woocha woocha! administrator please hope me! woocha woocha!'

That's how I picture it, at least.

woocha is Chinese for 5 teas.

Well, bad Chinese. In actual Chinese, you'd need a classifier (or "measure word") between the number and the noun, in this case bei: "woo-bei cha."

What is this thread about, now? I just had breakfast and I'm still a little groggy.

posted by Rhomboid at 3:41 PM on December 20, 2006

It was a thing of great beauty Rhomboid. I don't know if it was the brief alliteration, or the snarky over-the-top vitriol you packed into those four syllables, but just saying it brings a smile to my face.

I will, of course, be stealing it from you.

Well, bad Chinese. In actual Chinese, you'd need a classifier (or "measure word") between the number and the noun, in this case bei: "woo-bei cha."

In actual actual Chinese you'd waive your hand so that the waitress notices you and then when she comes over you'd sort of draw her attention to the fact that the pot lid is tilted indicating that it needs to be refilled.

Who just wants 5 cups of tea anyway?
posted by Pollomacho at 6:51 PM on December 20, 2006

Is waiving your hand anything like cutting it off? Because I wondered where that all started.
posted by dg at 7:49 PM on December 20, 2006

Yes, it's customary to remove your hand in order for the waitress to know that you desire 5 cups. For four you remove your left shoe. Three simply requires you place a small carp in your left pant leg.

Er, hello.
See, here's what happened...
One of the greats deleted a snarcastic, fuckheaded comment from SirStan on this thread before I could even flag it. Amazed by the celerity and skill of our betters, I said 'woocha' out loud, but didn't have the presence of mind to keep this meaningless utterance to myself.
that girl-yes, I did pronounce it 'WOO-cha' at the time.
