Wii Codes, again. January 7, 2007 10:48 AM Subscribe
Wii Codes, again. I can't be the only one who got a Wii after this post closed...
If these posts keep getting closed, perhaps the Mefi Wiki would be a good place for this.

Yeah, I know... YAWP. It would probably make more sense to put it on the wiki. I didn't think of that since I rarely check it.
I've already added everyone from the other post to my address book, but it doesn't count until it's reciprocated. And I can't send them a message on the Wii telling them to add me, because they haven't added me. Damn you Wii! Damn you and your paradoxical friend registration!

I also added everyone in the previous thread (my own wii number is in there somewhere), which I found to be thoroughly exhausting. Granted, I have a head cold right now and find just the thought of walking to the kitchen to get my matzo ball soup thoroughly exhausting, but shouldn't there be some easier/faster way to add people?

I have not added people from the old thread because I'm a lazy jerk, apparently. I'll get on the ASAP!

What's the benefit besides random Mii migration anyway? Anyone know what fun future things there will be to do between "Wii friends"?
I don't have my code handy but I posted it the first time...

That's if anybody wants to add me.
But I must warn you that my Mii avatar is just as ornery as I am.

Is there any drawback to posting these codes on the Internet? If it's a brand-new network and nobody's sure quite how it's going to be developed, is there a possibility that somebody will find a way to spam it — and then code a Web search to find blocks of 16-digit numbers with the word "wii"?
I don't have a Wii. I'm just curious, because I wouldn't post my e-mail without obscuring it somehow. Is this "address book" feature something that can be abused, such that you'll eventually post these codes as {1234 5678 nospam 8765 4321}?

Nope. Due to the reciprical nature of the Wii friend-code system, spam is a complete non-issue.

Okay. I have a Wii. And I play it often. And I keep tabs on upcoming games. But I have no idea what these codes are for. Can somebody please explain?

OK, so I've added everybody from the other post, as well as this one. Only a couple of people aren't grayed out, so I guess that means some people have still got some adding to do.
Does anyone know if there's an indicator that a friend is online? It doesn't seem that there is... that's silly.

For now, they allow you to send messages back and forth, and trade Miis. In the future they will possibly allow you to play games online with your friends (sort of like Nintendo DS codes, except they varied from game to game). On the main Wii menu, click the envelope (in the bottom right corner) and it will take you to your messages. Then click 'Create Message'. Then click 'Address Book'. On the first page of your address book, you'll see your Wii console's number. That's what you tell other people to add. To add them, you click 'Register', type in their Wii code, and then choose a nickname. They'll show up grayed out in your address book until they add you back (but they have no clue you added them unless you tell them outside of the Wii messaging system [since you can't message them if they haven't added you back]).
Insanely intuitive, right? It's the future!

Nintendo has got to "fix" this friend code stuff. What a pain. I'll add you suckers when I get home tonight, but mine is:

You're very welcome, assuming that was my Mr. Grey -- I bet lots of people have made a grey, just like lots of people have surely made Hitler miis.
Just wait until you get Tom Tucker's Upside-Down-Head Kid.

Note that to 'share' Miis between machines you must have enabled sharing on both the macro level (option on the Mii Parade screen) and micro level (option on the first 'page' of the Edit Mii menu).
