My triangle of sources June 24, 2002 2:20 PM   Subscribe

Gotta ask: how many of us poor souls are now lost in the certainly blessed, aesthetically coherent but ultimately life-consuming Bermuda Triangle of Sportsfilter; Blogroots and MetaFilter?

Maybe google search will be supplemented with xrefer search.

I want to start CultureFilter where we can discuss the beautiful and the arcane ( like the Garden of Allah), poetry, obscure art, the enigmas and ideas of history.

Blogroots is still pretty wet behind the ears. So far it hasn't attracted my long term, focused attention, though I try to keep an eye on it because it is very promising. Sportsfilter likely won't have anything of interest to me, so that's right out. MetaFilter, however, is a Bermuda Triangle unto itself.

I'm a member of all three (though I did play with the idea of registering at those other sites using the name of some well-knowns here--just to stir some shit) using the ColdChef title, but I stay true to the blue...and grey.

Of course, we all know where you end up if you get sucked down into the vortex of the triangle, but that land will remain unnamed.

I have enough trouble keeping up with this place... in fact, the volume of Metafilter is so great, unless one checks on an insanely frequent basis, it's impossible to keep up... I don't need those other two places.

It's gotten so out-of-hand that I'm going to create FilterFilter, where I will post just a single letter each day, i.e.:

Monday, June 24, 2002

A

Tuesday, June 25, 2002

J

...and so forth.

Sadly, I see that at least one person has already proposed FilterFilter, so it will have to remain a dream unfulfilled.

Three dimensions are sufficient in the real world, but the fourth Dimension is alleged to be...9622.net

Tho' no-one ever returns from there...

* changing subject *

Woo yeah, but about that Fifth Dimension, huh? C'mon, everybody! Sing along!
When the mooooon ... has left the seventh house .... and Jupiter ... aligns wi-ith Mars ... then peace ... will guide our pla-a-net ... and lo-ove will steer the stars!

Actually Miguel, I'll be leaving SF once the worldcup is over - It'll be interesting to see if there is an exodus. I post at BR but under another identity.

I have become convinced that MeFi has some strange power over time, as I have found myself coming to after having spent several hours mesmerised by the site itself and links from it (her?). I find the main problem is that comments and threads are added just often enough to keep me refreshing “one last time” before I definitely, positively get some work done. Because of the time/day difference here, the busiest time at MeFi seems to be through most of my (supposed) work day.

I am glad that I am not a big sports fan, or Sportsfilter would consume what little is left of my working hours! Don’t even mention Blogroots, as it is currently small enough that I only need to visit every couple of hours to keep up.

And I want you to start it. MetaFilter would be rid of me if you did.

I am an addict of MetaFilter and FilePile, I don't shower so much these days.

I second starting CultureFilter.

I haven't joined SportsFilter yet. How many women are in the locker room over there?
posted by iconomy at 7:38 AM on June 25, 2002

I have NewsFilter running: memigo --pure news links, with links to MeFi threads if the links are posted here.

Interesting site, costas. I'm gonna have to look at it some more when I've mentally logged out of BeerFilter.

BeerFilter! Now that's an idea I would be in favor of... where do I sign up?

Iconomy: there are a few women, but the majority of members, if I had to guess, is probably men. It's actually less of a boyzone than MeFi is sometimes, although we do put up the occasional Kournikova link (really, its inevitable, honestly...)

i am sure there are others besides me. :)

occasional Kournikova link

That's ok, insomnyuk, as long as we can put up the occasional link to...um...uh...I dunno. Some sexy sporty type guy. Or girl, depending on whatever floats your boat, as my father-in-law says.

jersey girl - I'll see you there.
posted by iconomy at 8:40 AM on June 25, 2002

Stavros: thanks; do register with memigo though (just a userid and a passwd, nothing else needed) to see links in a "weighted" order which is not available in the plain front page.

iconomy and jerseygirl...enjoy this.

Thanks, msacheson! I knew there was a reason I should be watching the World Cup.

Is he executing The Brandi Chastain Move? He's good.

Count me in, too, iconomy & jerseygirl. Haven't had much time to spend there, but I do check it.

I'm also a woman in the SpoFi (oh come on, you know that was inevitable) locker room, though I haven't posted yet. I'm just enjoying lurking for now, but eventually something will suck me ito the fray. That photo might've done it, had it been posted there. I'm such a sucker for a man with nice thighs...

I just joined SportsFilter...I lurk too but I am sure I will post there sooner or later. And I'm female.
