PETA-bashing getting old December 17, 2003 3:57 PM Subscribe
OK:
- no politics (well, at least except we promise to kiss Republican ass)
- no PETA
- no "drowns"
since we're discussing this, I hate fucking Flash sites -- I think they're dumb. so can we stop those threads too?

I'm sick of posts in general, can we just have a blank front page?

Doesn't need a point if it is going to be deleted. Which I imagine it will be.

Yeah, those 'no flash' posts really suck. Hating an entire medium is like, retarded...

No HTML posts, that medium is just tired and over-used.

If we stop making fun of PETA then the accusations of radical leftism will be true. Of course, some balance is called for, since people who report PETA's every movement, however mockingly, are basically playing into their hands, giving them free PR. I mean, *they* don't think it's ridiculous to hand out "your mommy kills animals" flyers, so just pointing out that they're doing it hardly hurts them. It helps.

Less kid scaring and more lettuce-clad hotties. Come on PETA, it's not difficult.

Just trying to perpetrate the meme of "Can we please stop with the :::whatever::: threads already?" MetaTalk threads until somebody posts a "Can we please stop with the 'Can we please stop with the :::whatever::: threads already?' threads already?" thread.

Someone posted that exact thread yesterday, but it got deleted. Apparently we have to wait for MetaMetaTalk to open before we can discuss that. :|

boaz - You were right, in retrospect, to call me on it. But meanwhile....
Wendell - In reference to Seth's recent "BushHateFilter" post, I posted an (of course biased) statistical analysis of the Metafilter political to apolitical to "Anti-Bush" post ratios on Metatalk and it got - probably deservedly - deleted. But that's Boaz' reference.

If we stop making fun of PETA...
Yeah, but the thing with PETA is that it's not like they're some sort of reasonable organization that is trying to reach a consensus. They're a bunch of radicals that are totally unwilling to compromise on what they see as a moral issue.
They're like a child who doesn't know the difference between good attention and bad attention. The best thing to do is to ignore them.
Come to think of it, they're really just trolls.

I think if PETA did something truly remarkable, earth-shaking or out of character it might be worth posting. So it's not about banning posts about a certain organization. What it's about, as I've said in the blue, is not supplying more free publicity to those like PETA and Madonna who have made publicity-seeking their main game, at the expense of their putative reason for existence (whether it be "artistry" or "consciousness-raising"). I realize it's fun for everyone who's anti-vegan to show up on every one of these and say "see?" - but what you're all really doing is making the PETA brand more powerful than ever.

but isn't that true for the Googlefilter or Applefilter or RIAAfilter posts too? We post every single move those companies make.

Good point, except that 1) Google, Apple and the RIAA are much more intrinsically connected to MeFi culture as technology-based entities, and 2) no matter how much they may seek publicity, they haven't turned the seeking of publicity into their main product.

Two questions:
Considering what else Matt has deleted recently, why is this thread still here?
Has anybody registered PetaFilter.com yet?
