Is "There is a special place in hell for Bush" really necessary? December 13, 2004 1:36 PM   Subscribe

I know everyone here voted for Kerry and despises the President, but is "There is a special place in hell for Bush" really necessary?

Well, there is a special place in hell for George W. Bush.

I'm not sure how you can argue against that statement.

I agree it isn't necessary. It's a given.

Well, if its a given, then it is logically necessary.

It's just politics. The other side similarly villified Kerry before the election. No, it's not "necessary", but is anything on MeFi? I'm willing to try to understand, though, why you think politicians should be exempted from criticism on MeFi. Why don't you think it's appropriate?
posted by Doohickie at 1:47 PM on December 13, 2004

Gee, Steve, you mean you voted for Kerry too? That would seem very odd given your comment history.

Mmmmm, yea. As someone who voted for Bushie, I didn't even notice this until you called it out (it's the subject/heading of the post, or whatever you call it). This is a pretty weak callout...stuff that's not necessary? According this callout, every politics post and then some would not be necessary.

See, Steve, you have a captive audience. I'm willing to hear you out and not even debate. I just wanted to hear your reasoning. But you act like my wife: "If you don't know what you did wrong, *I'm* not going to tell you!"

You have to do better than that. With all the flaming of members here, I really don't see anything wrong with an epithet against Bush by someone who disagrees with his position on the Iraq War. I just don't see it.

Stevie, it's so fitting that the part you couldn't really stomach in a post about dismembered kids is the part where somebody dissed your big Washington buddy
"a special place in hell". boo-hoo. that's so mean. much worse than, say, the pic where the guy has a foot blowm off and the other burnt to a crisp.

the bad bad bad MeFi bullies dissed your friend!!!

you're so sensitive, Stevie.

and your childish gloating on November 2 (or the constant, Tourettian tantrums) really make you a good nanny for other users. enjoy your November victory, and enjoy your Iraqi slaughterhouse, Stevie. enjoy the pics of your war.

How could this possibly be inappropriate? US citizens have been wishing US presidents in Hell publicly since at least the time of Lincoln.

S@L, are you suggesting that GWB is somehow more sacrosanct than Lincoln? Or that MeFi should somehow be more self-censoring than any other media outlet that is not owned by the Moon Church?

I am with the 19th-century French society priest who, as chronicled by Proust, was asked whether or not he believed in Hell. He responded, "Ah, madame, it is an article of the Holy Church and, as such, I must believe it. But let me tell you this--I do not for a second believe there is anyone IN it."

But I might make an exception for the entire Bush family. Them, and the person who invented the annoying cell-phone default ring tone that goes "dee-da-doo-da-dee-da-doo-da-DEE."
posted by Sidhedevil at 7:37 PM on December 13, 2004

Oh. So. Today it's about "special places in Hell."

Actually, as one on pretty intimate terms with Lord Beelzebub hisself, I can tell you there is a special place within The Circles of Hell, (as well as a very special Circle reserved within striking radius of the back of my rhetorical hand) for those who blithely ignore pictures of the truly obscene and unnecessary insult that is the senseless carnage their favorite President lied us into....and instead throw Yet Another MetaTalk tantrum about anyone daring to criticize Dear Leader.

'Course, le's not forget that other Circle of Hell, wherein some brilliantly create a Hell of contempt of their own making.

You remind me of this one guy that once went net-stalker on a poster he disagreed with. And not counting the little stalking episode that guy acts like a complete asshole in general. For the life of me I can not remember his name but I do know that if I saw him calling someone out I would probably just take that as all the more reason for the offending comment or post in question to remain.

Gosh. You'd think any given gutless net-stalker would want to....how do you say....rethink his membership here.....wouldn't you?
