MetaFilter 2016 Election Prediction Demolition Derby
It's been an unbelievably unpredictable primary season this year, and the Iowa caucuses are less than 30 hours away. So why not get ahead of the curve with a TRUMP-SIZED election prediction contest? I'm thinking Iowa (Dem/GOP), New Hampshire (Dem/GOP), Super Tuesday (Dem/GOP), final nominee (Dem/GOP), and general election winner, with ties broken by House/Senate control, Veepstakes speculation, and as much analysis/rationalization/weeping as you feel appropriate. Prize: One (1) $50 ($fifty) donation to the charity of your choice (split equally if necessary), and eternal bragging rights over the ruins of the punditocracy. Deadline is 8:00 PM Eastern time Monday, when the caucuses start. (Feel free to enter after Iowa or New Hampshire vote, but be advised that your prediction for those states will not count!) See inside for entry form. [more inside]

Must we get all political?
Must we have questions like this? It comes across as "We're all smart grownups here, and, of course, all smart grownups know that Bush SUCKS! Help me convince my poor, stupid, brainwashed friend that I'm right, which we all know I am." [more inside]
Sidebarred comment about Intentional Instability Model is a conspiracy theory
I see that jefgodesky's summary of Jeff Vail's "Intentional Instability Model" has been linked to the sidebar. I suppose this is somewhat subjective, but I'd describe it as a conspiracy theory backed by no evidence whatsoever, not really the best of MetaFilter.
The historical description of British policy also seems completely bogus to me. The British regarded the Middle East as their lifeline to India. It makes no sense for them to have deliberately set up Iraq to fail.

Did I miss a thread?
Was there a "Bush expresses regret for 'Bring it on!' " thread, and I missed it? apolgies if this should've been asked in AskMeFi instead
Axe-grindy Bush post.
This is a terrible, axe-grinding, (self-admitted) newsfilter post with editorializing in both the text of the post and the tags.
a grotesque lack of civility in the ad homonym realm
Thread 50250 should be used to indict, convict, and ban several Members for a grotesque lack of civility in the ad homonym realm.
Unconfirmed rumors not yet best of web
I ... agree with dios. This is a terrible post.
Tired of bush/iraq/war/terror posts
Could someone skilled in JavaScript please compose a script for the Firefox extension Greasemonkey that will remove any FPP with "Bush", "Iraq", or "War on Terror" appearing in the text? It would also be great if this script could allow custom word filtering.
"and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do"
Not that long ago (within the last month; two months at most) there was a link to a comment made by an advisor to the Bush administration that went somewhere along the lines of "we are the makers of history, and we will be judged by a future of our making." I can't find it. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
Rumors and speculation as fpp
Rumors and speculation. The National Enquirer quotes anonymous sources saying that Bush is drinking again. Is this credible enough to be posted to MetaFilter? (That's a real question, not a rhetorical one.)
Last Post!

Is "There is a special place in hell for Bush" really necessary?
I know everyone here voted for Kerry and despises the President, but is "There is a special place in hell for Bush" really necessary?
Another 4 years of BushFilter
It seems at the moment, that the US President will not change and will last another four years. I'm going to admit that I considered it a small bonus that if there was a victory for the contender, there was a glimmer of hope that the culture of MeFi might have shifted away from politics. Do you think that would have happened? We have another four years ahead of us...is it time to finally bury the dead horse and just admit, yes, the Blue is (and perhaps has always been) a community political weblog now? There's always AskMeFi I say.
Bad Bush thread.
Bush is Hitler. Well, I'm glad that's settled.
The post includes scintillating links to the front page of foxnews.com and to a NY Times editorial. The comments include "you never should have been born", "prayer breakfasts take us closer to forced reeducation camps for gays", (this comment met with lots of approval) "you're an idiot" and "Bush is Hitler"(the phrase "a normal Christian guy on a power trip" is a reference to an earlier comment by skallas that Hitler was just a normal Christian guy on a power trip). There’s nothing redeeming here. Will you delete this please, Matt?

Too much US politics
It's 9PM EST and as I look at the front page I see twenty posts today.
Ten of these are about United States politics and of the remaining ten, another two are somewhat related. I know it's important and all, but c'mon, enoughs enough.

With so much Bush on MeFi, maybe it's time to start bush.metafilter.com?
There are 32 instances of the word Bush on the MeFi front page. How about we start http://bush.metafitler.com? Or maybe just take over BushFilter?
what bush and kerry did in the vietnam years
i am so tired of reading about bush and kerry and what they did and didn't do during the vietnam years ... could we please just give it a break? ... this is nothing but monotonous drum beating ...
(no link ... there's plenty on the front page)

Politics supporter subsites idea
I just had an idea, it's just an idea, let me know if I'm nuts or this has any merit. Let's say around June 1, when the US presidental campaign gets into its full stride, I setup two sub-metafilter sites, one at BushIn2004.metafilter.com, the other at KerryIn2004.metafilter.com for fans of either to blow off their steam and keep MeFi proper largely free of the campaign-squabble-of-the-day posts we're likely to see? (yeah, and I'm curious how a bush supporter blog would go over too)
Stop HateBushFilter
Can we stop with the HateBushFilter posts that are a blight on the the front page daily?

good post on Bush's UN speech by insomnia_lj
While sometimes I know the Bush Bad threads wear on a number of us (not to mention the problems with Newsfilter), I wanted to single out today's post by insomnia_lj linking to Bush's UN speech as good. [more inside]
I agree with the sentiments, but that's not a good post.
1. Bush is an assclown.
2. This is not a good FPP, IMO.
Nothing personal, but it has been linked in at least one thread already, and is only a funny picture. Am I wrong (I mean this time)?

The Return of I/P Filter!
The Return of I/P Filter! And the main link is just a CNN.com story. Can we say Newsfilter? The poster doesn't even try to be objective, rattling on about his "opinion" on (yawn) Bush. And...
bush bush bush bush. bush bush! bush bush bush? bush.
In the last month: Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush (George H.), Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush (Jeb), Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush. Obsessed?
Civility in politics threads: Bushtard.
Bushtard? I'm not a fan of Bush, but this is really getting old. Any suggestions for how to discourage this method of posting?
Bad Bush thread.
Boy, is this Bush link ever a bad thread.
