MeFi Locations May 20, 2005 2:24 PM Subscribe
Where do MeFites live? I've been aware for a while of our denizens living in Chile and So. Korea, but recently have seen postings from Uganda and Japan as well. Is there any listing and/or breakdown of members' self-reported locations similar to the professions list?
Matt was going to put Long/Lat fields on the userpage, but that was pre-baby--i don't know if it's been shoved aside.

I'm currently living inside a saguaro cactus. It's like two thousand years old or something.

Good question. I am going to visit family in Quebec this Summer & there is no way to search for Canadian Mefites by province or anything.

I live in a world inside my head. The real world was too mean and nasty, so I retreated here and am quite content to stay forever.

I used to live in The Moment, but it got pretty crowded so I moved out.
Now I'm living in a Dream World, which is nice and all, but I'm thinking of re-locating to Sin; most of the people I've talked to who are living in sin seem to be pretty happy with it, for the most part.

Kathmandu, at least for the next week when my visa extensions finally peter out. It's hot here today, the sun shining white on the ground. Meant to head north this morning to Betrawati, a small village on the Trishuli river, but today is the second day of a Maoist strike so no buses are leaving the Kathmandu valley.

The self-reported locations part makes any of these pony requests moot. We wouldn't have to always ask where one another is if people would report on where they are. More often than not a user's page is blank.
For the time being I am where my profile says I am. Hopefully I will be somewhere else by the end of the summer.

you can't automate processing of a user-formatted chunk of text. lat/long would allow you to do cool stuff like plot maps of conversations.

I am not used to getting so Existential while in a Meta State of Mind.
Remind me of a joke:
René Descartes walks into a restaurant and orders a meal.
When he is done the waiter walks up to him and asks, "Monsieur Descartes, would you care for coffee?"
Descartes thinks then says "I think not." and promptly disappears.
