MetaChat link in the MeFi top bars June 1, 2005 5:21 AM   Subscribe

Can we please get a MetaChat link added to the MeFi top bars? It might help prevent threads like this one. [Though my hopes in that direction are faint.]

The thread I linked to was C17H19NO3's "Happy birthday to me!" thread. Just for reference purposes in case it gets deleted or something.

Would a link to MetaChat have stopped C17's silly post? No. He's been here a while and knows better. This is a community norm thing, not a need-more-links thing.

Oh, there are other reasons to link to it. Like that not everyone (i.e., not all existing members and no newbies) will see that MeTa thread on it and will therefore not know about it.

I don't get it. There are a bunch of MeFi offshoots, including other "chat" sites. They don't get linked in the top bar. Why would this new site get a top bar link?

Also, if 9622 is any guide, chatty sites usually devolve into a small group of "insiders" or "oldbies" or whatever chatting with each other. (Sort of the point, I guess.) Likely not of interest to the bulk of MeFi users.

Even better, edit the JRun error page to link to MetaChat. That way, people would find out about the site at least once a day.

I'm sorry, orange swan, I was just trying to be a smart-ass with the lilboo post (so it is Metafilter related).

Go ahead and delete, Matt (or Jessamyn).

I just closed it instead of deleting it, hope that's okay. Was MetaChat giving anyone else a MySQL error a few minutes ago?

Yes, jessamyn; I got it about ten minutes ago.

MySQL error!

Error establishing a database connection!

1. Are you sure you have typed the correct user/password?
2. Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
3. Are you sure that the database server is running?

so, i guess we can post here while MeCha is down?

Is it just me, or does C17H19NO3 kinda remind anyone else of Keyser Soze (the poster, not the plot device)?

I thought C17H19NO3 is morphine.
posted by Doohickie at 9:26 AM on June 1, 2005

PST nailed it. Maybe the MeFi Detective agency can verify that this kid is Keyser Soze. The antics and attitude are identical.

Yeah, um, that was satire.

No, that is definitely not me. That user has better posts.

Seriously, though. I understand why I was called out, and I apologize. I am not Keyser Soze. I was not aware of a user Keyser Soze until this thread. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.

Please, Matt or Jessamyn, delete my thread.

So you don't know him, but he has better posts? Interesting....

Someone should get Heywood Magroot on the case!

It's easy to see what that user had for posts dios. PinkStainlessTail provided a link to KS's userpage for crying out loud.

Ok, I'll delete the birthday post, as you requested, but I won't be adding a metachat link to metatalk.

I know Dean Keaton. He's fully capable of faking his own death.

That is actually a great idea. Is it possible?

How about a metachat link (and 9622.net, and monkeyfilter actually) on the etc page?
They could replace the dead links: War/IraqFilter, HealthFilter, metaphilter (moved), conventia.

Heywood Magroot would be a great name for a Janet Evanovich-style private detective.

Oh, okay. I only asked because you had previously written that you would be happy to do it.
