A standard link format desired September 3, 2001 10:43 PM   Subscribe

A standard link format with fields for source, catagory, link & title, description. Reasoning inside.

Considering the question of the Onion article, the importance of certain catagories like silly Flash, etc... it'd be nice if users could further customize their view by excluding catagories they don't care for or sources they regularly read. The front page would look the same as it does now, but with some additional data behind the scenes.

Not so much "a standard link format" as "current link format +".

That is a great idea. (I, for one, would prefer to never stumble across another silly Flash movie.) However, who would decide what categories? I mean, would there be a list to choose from (perhaps too regimented - and one person's "society" is another person's "culture") or would the burden be on the poster (might have added effect of slowing down rate of posts - for good or ill)? And I like the idea of encouraging people to try to describe the links at least a little.

by the way, what Skyline's referring to is this thread about linking to an Onion article.
