Mmmm. A one-link post to a mediocre commercial.
I dont think there is anything worth discussing about this commercial. [more inside]

Not necessarily a callout, because I always find myself reading the religion posts even when I don't agree with them, but as doctor_negative points out in brownpau's latest thread it may be time for someone to get his own blog.

When is a one-line FPP with no (or little) description appropriate for MeFi?
Oh really? Is that so? Well, is this a good example then [MI]?

I recently posted my 100th FPP in the blue. (But didn't even notice at the time!) Now this probably isn't much compared to some others, but I've been using MeFi for what seems like forever, so I just thought I'd take a moment to say thanks to Matt and the other admin guys, and to everyone else who makes MeFi a great place - since it isn't often we get positive posts in the grey.
Thanks, MeFi!

The slowest day for MetaFilter in recent history? Only six FPP today. Ten yesterday. What gives? Summer started?

In the past year, Terry Gross has been mentioned in the blue a total of three times, regarding her interviews with William Gibson, Tommy Chong, and Daniel Clowes. I'm just curious: why these three guys, and not her countless other interviews? [more]

So say I find a product on the web...I buy said product, and it is revolutionary for its purpose (using your mouse...it is a combo of mouse pad/teflon feet/teflon wax from the same company), would it be wrong/shameless to link said product on MetaFilter? (I am in no way related to this company other than I bought the products and I find them to be truly amazing). I simply want to share the love with any gamers/designers that could benefit from its use.

The Delta is (probably) declaring bankruptcy thread, which features nothing more than a rumor backed up by a link to Delta's home page, is truly teh suck.

The Final Nail. I haven't been reading as much lately---I'm am hoping that the election will be over soon so the excuses are gone for shitty posts. But, there it is.
A double post. It is a Newsfilter post, that isn't even news since it has been talked about for over a decade. It is clearly does not meet the stated standard. It is a classic troll: toss a turd that you *know* will incite much argument, for no apparent reason.. It is a single-link to a newspaper. It is a blatant amount of negative campaigning even while we try to encourage voting with a new link at the top of the page.
For the love of god, it is a self-Godwinizing post!
Matt posted the very next post, 30 minutes later, so there is no chance he didn't see the post.
Yet... it remains there on the blue.
It is the piece de resitance of the the shithole Matt has willingly allowed MeFi to become. I would say amazing if it wasn't so sad....

Worst FPP ever? There's plenty of marginally psychotic fetishes out there. This one is neither unusual nor entertaining. There are plenty of specialty sites for this crap (Stile, Rotten), so it would stand to reason that only the most entertaining of it, if any, should make it to Mefi, a more general-interest site.

The pancakes are getting incredibly stale, people.
Metafilter used to be an addiction for me, but lately with more and more Newsfilter, and boring Newsfilter at that, can we really say we are the best of the Web anymore? Final straw was the posting of that Bush daughter photo.
Is this really what we want this place to be?

Do single link front page posts with no addtional text and no clue to contents of the destination in the link text irritate the heck out of anyone but me?

I had a pretty interesting link for a fpp but I found out the hard way that I have to wait a week (5 days? 7 days?) before i get to to post on the big blue. Isn't is safe to assume that the new members aren't just people that wandered in to mefi and joined, but rather lurkers who've been dying to post for quite a while?
Also, I was able to post a question in askme as well as this thread, so I'm thinkin maybe we need some policy revision

MetaFilter is not about us; it's about what we find out there on the web. If so, we should be in the background of our posts if not outright invisible, and we should avoid phrasing our posts as personal blog entries. First example: "I found no post ... I only post it now ... as I see in my weblog's referer log ... that's how a few people found my site." Second example: " I hope ... I've searched ... It has special relevance to me since I am ... Being 25 and wanting to pay off my loans, I may have ... " And posts like this, which are all about personal experience and nothing else, are right out.

Remember single-link posts?
A glance at the front page soon reveals they are now the exception rather than the rule. This is perhaps due to MeTa influence. You know: "Add a link or two for context/to show you care/as proof you can google". And yet great single-link posts, like this one, are probably the most appealing and difficult to get right. Not least because I suspect most users will only click on what they assume is the main link. Have multi-link posts become the norm or are they just a passing trend?

Shouldn't front page posts describe the content of the linked material? Lately a few posts have offered a brief opinion of the linked material without describing it (e.g. this one, this one, and this one), which I find a bit of a nuisance because I have to dig just to find out what's going on. By no means am I trying to criticize the posters; I simply wanted to draw attention to a general trend that might need correcting. What do you think?

There have been two people today who have posted two links on the front page. (one being a double post) How do you think limiting people to one front page post a day would work out? Or maybe even one every three days? a week?
