FPP to an awesome product (not mine)? May 7, 2005 10:58 AM   Subscribe

So say I find a product on the web...I buy said product, and it is revolutionary for its purpose (using your mouse...it is a combo of mouse pad/teflon feet/teflon wax from the same company), would it be wrong/shameless to link said product on MetaFilter? (I am in no way related to this company other than I bought the products and I find them to be truly amazing). I simply want to share the love with any gamers/designers that could benefit from its use.

As long as you don't have any connection to the company then it's probably ok.

Although, you should seriously consider whether it would be better to post about it on your own blog.

Another good way to share is sending it to Cool Tools.

Have you tried the new Pepsi?

Sorry, gren, but this is the 21st Century.

Anyone using a computer for any extended period of time uses a trackball controller, or some of those floating, pulsating rings which change color. Mousepads and their corresponding interface devices went out of style a long time ago.

gren, bad idea in my opinion, though people have done it. It's not what MeFi is for, really.

Really bad idea. And I wish others would stop posting about products like FireFox and OSX. Everyone already knows about them and is well aware when an update is available. Sheesh.

Thanks for the hookup with cooltools frykitty.
Yah...now and then the idea of a 'product page' for MeFi *sounds* like a worthwhile thingamabob.
Sometimes product stuff on the front page is ok -- when you haven't seen it and it's great or intriguing or there's an angle under the surface. But I guess that means you need to get around a bit more.

And be sure to disclose whether or not you're a BzzAgent.

my idiot acquaintances seem to love those abominations. they're the same sort who install bonzi buddies, shop-o-matic toolbars, and hang out on abetterinternet.com using p2p to share nail.exe.

I resent that, q, and so does my bonzi buddy.

Works for me, gren. Hell, half the stuff on MeFi now is an advertisement for something.

Smart Dalek, I guess you've never picked up a Mouse Rug. I picked up a persian styled one four years ago, it looks pretty much as good as it did the day I got it. It tracks my mouse very well, and adds a bit of warmth to my dekstop.

As for posting said product on Metafilter...is it really best of the web? Aren't there plenty of other sites that specialize in that sort of thing such as Cool Tools?

I'm curious. What is it?

Note that teleporation and time travel, when invented, will probably count as permissable exceptions to such rules.

Oh, *that's* what I'm supposed to do with that pulsating ring? D'oh!

you'll pry my trackball from my cold dead hands.
it has nothing to do with the impulse download/install anything, it's about limited desk space and sheer laziness (move your thumb instead of your whole arm).
posted by juv3nal at 2:25 PM on May 8, 2005

Whole arm? You need to turn your mouse sensitivity way up, mate.

Yea. Trackballs are only for centipede.
